Yeah that's part of it but I think I gave her max 'female' angle in elbow and knee and it looks ridiculous. Character creator only showed walking, not running which is a bit silly

Is it really that bad with kbm?

I dunno about this game, but I ran into an issue with DDDA back in the day where despite using a controller the prompts would constantly flash between kb&m and controller. I ended up saying gently caress it and just playing with kb&m, and it worked well enough after an adjustment period. The controls in this game are pretty similar to the last one, so I'd say it's worth giving it a shot. I do think the UI keeps the same layout as if you had a controller, just with keys for icons instead, but that might've just been the one streamer I was watching switching between the two.

I'm playing archer with kbm and it's fine.
Wouldn't be surprised if that vocation works better than controller, even.

Is there any reason for me to hold onto this Marcher's armor set I picked up in the guard house? Stats are bad but it looks cool. Tempted to sell since I'm low on cash after blowing all my money on fancy gear, but don't want to if this is unique or something.

For now I'll stick it in my storage.

It's not as bad as the people screaming about it say.l, but it's also not the smoothest game in the world. People are already finding tweaks and settings to make things much better for themselves. If you're the type to freak out if anything dips below 60, stay away, but in general I havent noticed it much. If it weren't a hot topic of contention I don't think I'd remark on it at all.

Well, there is one thing. When you wear the marcher's set people think you are a guard and you don't count as trespassing in areas where guards can be. It makes running around the palace very easy.

I don't have a God computer. I have a 5600X, 16GBs or RAM, and a 3070 with 8 GBs of video memory.

I noticed a hitch once in the main city. I turned off that analytics poo poo running in the background when I heard that might help, maybe that did it, but I have never had a single issue in the many hours I've put into it so far.

What the post above is trying to say is that, yes, it has some serious performance issues. Especially on older hardware.

Confirm. It's very playable but the framerate goes down significantly for pretty much everyone in the big cities. How much depends on your hardware but it's CPU related so if you have a new CPU with a lot of threads and cores you'll be doing better than me with my old i7, where I'm getting thirty to forty at 1080p

I'm glad this seems to be as much of a weird rear end game as the first one. I haven't played very far but I've already run into weird reactive quest stuff. I like that the pawn dialogue has been expanded to just be more intricate but just as weird.

I haven't really been paying attention to the fps meter but on a i7-12700k/4080/32gb I cranked everything to high, didn't turn on any dlss/fsr, turned off dynamic resolution and even at a pretty high resolution (3840x1600) everything has been pretty smooth.

I'm guessing damage influences enemy aggro? I had trouble getting this Cyclops to stop attacking me (the Archer) so I could resurrect our Mage. My Fighter pawn wasn't getting back aggro very quickly. This might make sense since I have a fancy bow and presumably do a lot more damage.

One question - after the Cyclops fell over, I tried to climb it, but this just resulted in my character sort of pulling on it (which also seems to be what made it fall - it was staggered and I tried climbing, which instead made me pull on it and it falling). I was pressing R2, which I thought was the climb button.

Also - how do you get (for example) a Fighter pawn to use the shield launch thing on you?

I’ve never really understood why people say these games are “weird”, they’re like the ultimate apotheosis of AD&D and old grognardy Wizardry games.

I love it. I feel bad for the performance issues people are having but I’ll lap this poo poo up at 25 fps on my Xbox and beg for more, delving into dungeons and caves is like the ultimate incarnation of my 1980’s teen fantasy imaginings.

It pains me that this game will be under appreciated like the first because the design is absolutely sublime.

I was like 50 hours into Final Fantasy Rebirth but I can’t put this down

Many things influence aggro.

Ogres, I believe, hate women and fixate on them. At least that's what one of my pawns yelled out at me during a combat with an Ogre and it seems to be accurate, even when I stopped attacking completely the fucker was chasing me non-stop.

Yeah that was a thing in DD1 as well (the ogres in BBI were the reverse, where they'd fixate on male characters). There's an augment you can get pretty early on as a thief that reduces the amount of aggro you draw. I'm not sure how good it is but it's very easy to get and probably worthwhile for anyone who doesn't want to be on the front line.

Was adventuring until nightfall and then realized I don't have camping supplies, the closest town is really far away and my health is super low. Ran into a random npc being attacked by goblins and after saving him he gave me an escort quest to a village I've never seen. This game rules, I can't tell how much of this stuff is emergent so maybe it won't hold on another playthrough but so far this is just magical

The issue right now seems to be that a lot of stuff is CPU bound, so people see performance drops in very busy areas like a big city, where having a big beefy GPU or turning down all the graphics settings doesn't actually help. It kind of depends on what level of FPS drop you consider tolerable - a lot of people are getting drops down to 30-40 FPS, which is noticeable, but still very playable. Out in the wilderness, higher framerates are much more common, and that's where you're going to be doing most of your fighting.

They want to force you to do the collectathon because the reward for... 50? tokens is a "helmet" that's just a circlet and can be used on any vocation. I know that's the reward I'M aiming for. But until then my pawn is helmetless.

Some brain genius who is definitely not the most spoiled gamer of all time wrote a Steam review complaining about how he “only“ gets 50-60 fps in cities.

So yeah, lotta assholes out there.

Although I’m still kind of glad the game is getting review bombed for MTX even if I don’t really care about them and understand they really don’t impact the games very much. Hopefully it just makes the industry second guess adding this kind of nonsense to games cause it really does make them worse.

I don't think it would have that effect because the MTX it is getting bombed for are genuinely less than the DLC for every other major big release this year. I can't imagine any bean counter is going to look at it and take away "people don't want MTX badly enough for us to remove a massive source of profit" as opposed to "Guess there's no real market for Dragon's Dogma, better invest in more Monster Hunter spinoffs."
