Maybe I should actually do any of the main quests at this point instead of randomly exploring and doing sidequests.

After you do the first quest for Brant in the capital take the Oxcart back to the first village (M something) to check on if they might need some help. You’ll find a master and a hybrid class there earlier than you are supposed to think.

Pretty sure you can miss this event and the guy who teaches you the class there if you progress to far past that point.

I’m probably just dumb but I have come across a couple quest markers on map that seem don’t seem to have anyone or anything to interact with. Specifically a guy in a tower and a ladder that needs to be kicked down from a ledge.

That's not quest markers, it's just your pawns marking ladders. Pawns REALLY like marking ladders. There's not really quest markers in the game, besides the ones from quests you're currently on.

Exclamation marks seems to just be your pawns marking something of interest that is not a treasure chest or a resource node.
Usually ladders

If I come upon a ladder not marked on my map the pawns go into the brine. All ladders are to be marked and I don’t suffer laziness.

I only have one Thief pawn among my Steam friends for whatever reason (and it's a good one, shout out to Ciocie). Could just be coincidence, but maybe they're underrepresented.

Not particularly, but it makes a big difference in how they talk. Apparently Simple inclination pawns are morons, from what I’ve heard anecdotally. Which rules

Btw, a lot of locked doors can be opened by finding an angle on the other side of the door, and shooting out the plank blocking it with a bow.
For most houses you can do this through a window at the back.

Just fought my first chimera in a cave and it was legit challenging and fun, as opposed to all the ogres and minotaurs I've been fighting at night on the road who one-shot me the instant they actually turn attention my way but otherwise look manageable while my pawns are occupying them.

The lich afterwards had to be ran away from because I was on sorc and the chimera had exhausted all our healing items. But a respec to mage and subbing in that holy ball of light spell before coming back made for a fun fight.

My simple pawn definitely feels like a bit of a moron, but maybe I'm being too hard on her. She's just happy to be included! (I also really like her voice, so I don't think I'd change it anyway.) Simple pawns are also more likely to go loot stuff, whereas straightforward pawns ignore loot. Kindhearted are supposed to prioritize healing your arisen I think so I see a lot of mages with that. I don't think I've particularly noticed any pawns being terrible due to an inclination though. I wonder what a kindhearted or straightforward sorc might look like, for instance.

Quest markers are yellow.

Explosive arrow rules. I basically one-shot the first story relevant cyclops by knocking it off balance, then the pawns and guards just swarmed and murdered it before it could stand up. A shame that using the ability at all requires consumables but I guess it'd be a bit too powerful otherwise.

Archery is a lot better here than in DD1 overall, since there's a degree of auto tracking for basic attacks so you can safely plink away at fast moving targets even if you're poo poo at stick aiming. And when things are held still for you, you can still do massive damage as always. Also you can fuckin' drop kick dudes if they try to rush you.

I went directly following the main quest to get to the capital, got a cool ninja helmet and shoulder cape for my thief (while still running around in the default rags otherwise), then went to immediately deliver a letter back to that starting city that’s entirely burned down. Was running around the wilderness for a while, then back to that burned down starting city and found out there’s also an entirely functional section that isn’t burned down completely lmao.

Game rules.

Any time I spend not playing this game is part of an incorrect life I no longer maintain.

Anyone know if you can / how to remake your pawn?

Yes, but it's different than in DD1, I got confused for a while too - if you want to restrain an enemy, you need to jump on them and hit grab in midair. You can only do it if the enemy is already staggered or downed. Grabbing from the ground will always do the over the shoulder grab like you saw.

You can change vocations at any time at a vocation guild (Inn). Don't know about the second one

I think there are specific lines if your pawn is fat. Sometimes pawns will tell me my pack is too full and my pawn is always like “well if there’s anything edible I’ll gladly lighten your load” and I’ve never heard any other pawns say it
