All days are nights to see till I see thee; and nights bright days when dreams do show me thee.
There are some good "Swing for the fences" guys in this years draft so I wouldn't be so down on their chances of finding a guy who can turn them around, but there's no sure things so its going to be a risk. But yeah, Portland will be bad for a while.

They can maybe move Grant and Brogdan if they want, it might be worthwhile to keep them around though.

Can you imagine a rookie PG sucking rear end? Nah not me. That means he must suck. Give me my ESPN job now thanks guys

Portland fielded their 38th different starting lineup of the season tonight, does anyone know the record for most starting lineups in an 82-game season? I want to say it was 76ers at the end of the Hinkie era but I may be confusing lineup shittiness with roster instability etc.

This has been such a bitterly bad season for the Blazers. It's not just that they're bad, it's that the constant injuries and roster shuffling have left the team in a spot where they don't know all that much more about the young guys than they did at the beginning of the season. Yeah Scoot has not been as advertised but it's different lineups all the time which I assume really sucks for a rookie PG. It's gonna be so much harder to pick a lane in the offseason and get their poo poo together when they still don't really know what they have:
  • It's too early to call Scoot a bust imo, but he's obviously been less than awesome, plus he's only been on the court w Simons <600 minutes all season so you don't even know if that can really work
  • Sharpe's only played in 32 games so you can't really evaluate how he looks with either of them
  • Ayton's been so streaky and has missed a bunch of games too
  • The only guy who's shown any consistency is Jerami Grant who coincidentally is the one guy who doesn't fit the timeline
  • None of the young guys really look like they would make the rotation for a good team. They have some nice wing prospects and that's about it.
What's irritating is I can already hear everyone up here blame the GM/FO even though they did as well as they possibly could in moving on from Dame. Instead of sucking for a stretch to get their bearings and evaluate guys, everything feels as murky as it did last fall, with an underwhelming draft on the horizon to boot. They're gonna suck next season too and probably end up moving on from Billups, which I get but also isn't going to solve anything. They're unlikely to find some savior in the draft, no free agent would want to come here, and they don't have a ton of trade assets. It's hard not to see an extended stretch of mediocrity looming for this team, they might have the bleakest outlook of any of the lottery teams.

If I recall the Lakers had 40 something Vogel's last year with them, although I imagine most of the lineup records were set that year since that was the year with all the covid replacements.

Scoot to me looks like a first year PG looks most of the time to me. You can't ever count out PGs year one. Should be interesting to see how he looks this summer league and if he sets the tone for a good sophmore year.

I thought the team looked okay when they had Brogdon, Ayton, Grant and Simons at once[and here's where I stopped writing this post 9 hours ago and forgot to hit "send". Well it looks like it's still relevant I guess, slow thread day] but I'm really not sure it's a style of basketball that can keep up with teams trying for 130 every night.

He was hurt, had terrible teammates, and is 20. Evaluating 20 year olds based on “offensive win shares” is silly. If you look at his game log, he has a lot of standout performances while he was going 1 v 5 with a bad offense.

You can hate on Chauncey and the Blazers but not my boy Sharpe!!!

High usage wings either are instantly good or they take 4 years to be good. It's a shame Sharpe lost that year at college and is now playing with a terrible coach.

But please show some respect. Checked out Detroit Monty is by far the worst coach in the league. Worse than Jason Kidd even

It took Huerter destroying his shoulder for Mike Brown to finally realize “hey maybe I should be playing Keon more” but at least he got there instead of trying to start Chris Duarte

The importance of this mission cannot be overemphasized
Scoot has not looked amazing this year by any metric, but of recent All-Star guards Fox and Garland both had absolutely horrible rookie seasons too and they turned out okay. I don't think you can read much into a teenager playing point guard in the NBA.

Seriously. I have no idea was he wasn't benched in the playoffs last year, but the fact that he has been continuing to start makes no drat sense. The team is so much better with Keon in his place. It's the first time I saw a player get injured on a team I follow and thought "I hope he is OK and I hope this results in a rotation change."

this rookie class is notable for having a bunch of defenders who managed to be very good right away. just look at this list:

Victor Wembanyama
Ausar Thompson
Anthony Black
Toumani Camara
Amen Thompson
Kris Murray
Brandin Podziemski

All very positive defenders this season. Big surprise to me on Black and especially Kris Murray, didn't think either of these guys would be that useful on the defensive end. Also Oscar Tshiebwe, Jarace Walker, and GG Jackson haven't played that much but look like good defensive players. Cason Wallace hasn't been super effective this season but it's easy to see his defensive upside.

Motel Midnight off the hook
Question: when a player gets traded mid season, does their new team grill them for the strategies/plays of their old team, or is there an unwritten code that you don't ask or tell that stuff?
