Flushes are really useful early on because they're easier to build than other big hands but in the long run hand values tend to become less and less important compared to what your joker bonuses get you (and hand-specific joker bonuses tend to not be great.) Early on getting a couple levels in flush or one of the flush-based jokers is nice to get you started but you usually don't want to build around it.

The DNA joker is great until it becomes instinctual to just play one card and then you blink and remember you're on the Mouth.

Game managed to turbo gently caress my PS5 in a way no other game has before - just froze after playing a hand, but the music was playing as normal and still connected to the Pulse headset. Couldn’t access the home menu and the PS5 wouldn’t turn off even holding down the power button :magemage: had to fully unplug it to get it working again. Very odd

How do you deal with Purple Stake on upward? The lower stakes I can handle just fine on the checkered deck (the one with only spades and hearts) for reliable flushes, but after that it seems based on RNG whether you can get crucial jokers early enough to counteract the blinds going up exponentially or have to restart the run.

Also, with the whole "small blind does not give money" debuff, do you just skip it for the skip reward or what? I find that, unless you've got a Golden Joker or have enough money for interest to kick in, it's better to just skip. This also factors into the RNG thing I mentioned above since an early ante skip bonus that says "gives money based on number of skips/hands played/etc" seems useless and warrants a new run.

As soon as small blind stops giving money I start looking for good skips on that, and probably the round after it. Some kind of economy for one, and a polychrome or other buffed joker for the other is usually a good combo, and the first boss can always be beaten by fishing for flushes or full houses. So you ideally end the first boss with around $23 or a free shop voucher, and a buffed joker in shop to jumpstart your run. Anything with +mult or decent +chips will power you through ante 2 to stabilize economy and create a decent run. Still some luck element present even at that point but that's the minimum to get a passing run started, for me.

You need to find a playable joker in your first 3 shops or you die. Skipping the first shop gets rid of a third of those opportunities. I don't think it's worth the 5 dollar tag. Mega buffoon is very worth it though.

Taking the small blind isn't that bad. Obviously skips get more attractive but $3 should generally not be a huge part of your overall income. Often getting another shop roll is more important than the monetary reward.

It does make a bigger difference for the very first round in the game since you get no interest and have lots of stuff to buy, but a bad 1st round skip isn't necessarily fatal (at least for stronger decks.)

The thing with a bad first round skip is that you can just press the new run button to change it

Unfortunately on the higher stakes I sit there for a random 0-5 minutes rerolling the small blind skip until it's the free packs and cards next shop.

I can't decide if I'm ruining the game for myself or I'm just doing it because gambling rules.

sometimes 5 minutes 'R'ing, get to shop, oops all planets. _RRRR_

The no gold on small blind-stake really should be adjusted so that it only works from ante 2.

Yep. Same thing for the later challenges. Ideally, it’s the Free Shop and $15 for the boss. Start ante 2 with a couple of decent jokers and either a decent tarot card or planet. There’s really no point in trying to compete a run otherwise.

I can see why the dev wouldn't want to do that, but at the same time, I'm just going to reroll until I get a halfway decent set of tags at higher stakes anyway, so why torture me?

I basically just reroll until I get a pack, money tag, or if I'm getting tired of it a holographic tag because typically I can't afford the polychrome on the first big blind.

Get out of here +3 hand size

+3 hand size can be ok on gold stake if the big blind has a really good tag (probably just the $15 for beating a boss.) Hammer skip twice and chaos dunk the boss blind, which would otherwise be a gamble on most decks without any chance to buy improvements.

it gives you another ante's worth of rounds to improve your scaling if you have jokers that benefit from that sort of thing
