The only thing that has threatened to actually paralyze public life in Vietnam during the last 100 years is the abject failure of the post-1975 communist regime to account for the transition of pho stands/carts/trucks in the south of the country from a capitalist method of procurement to a socialist one.

Does that sound like bullshit? Could it be true?

Were it me, I would not take the chance of loving up the Vietnamese people's soup.

As an aside:

A non-zero amount of GiPers end up in Huntsville, Alabama at some point. Try Viet House on Airport Rd. Great food, wonderful service, and very agreeable prices. Open 1100-2030 during the week, 1100-2130 on the weekends, closed all day Tuesday. Try not to order the Banh Mih past about 1400, the bread gets a bit too crunchy for my taste.

The Thirsty Turtle around the corner is great during the day for a drink and a sandwich. They will not let you leave hungry. Employee owned, too, by people that loved the place so much they bought it off the owner's family after he died.

(user was put on probation for this hungry post)

Thousands of people took to the streets in #Budapest demanding the resignation of Prime Minister #Orban and the country's chief prosecutor, Reuters reports.

The protest was sparked by a published audio recording by Hungarian opposition figure Peter Mádár revealing government corruption cover-ups.

https://twitter.com/wartranslated/status/1772900338221097028

quote:

Viktor Orbán UNDER FIRE in corruption scandal again as thousands came out in Budapest on Tuesday demanding the Hungarian prime minister to resign after former diplomat Péter Magyar released a tape of Justice Minister Judit Varga stating how other government officials caused evidence to be removed from court records to cover up their roles in corrupt business dealings.

We watch closely as we believe in the will and fairness of the Hungarian people tired of 14 years of Fidesz (ruling party) in power.

I realize it might be a bit early to celebrate getting rid of Orban, but once people are marching in the streets with torches, it's usually a bad sign for whoever's in power.

Interestingly the government before Orbán also fell due to a leaked audio of gvt officials talking about their lies, which led directly to his wannabe dictatorship.

Now now, not all Europeans are like that! For example in the UK there haven't been any significant protests about anything in 40 years. In fact the government recently made protesting that could cause inconvenience to anyone anywhere completely illegal, just to make sure. :pseudo:

From what I understand French protests can see some results. What do American protests get for the effort? Usually black-bagged leaders committing suicide to the back of the head then lighting their cars on fire and mass arrests for everyone in these few city blocks.

The Russians continue to make small (10s of meters per day) gains. However, spring has arrived and with that the mud. How that will effect Russian advances we will have to see, I doubt that they want to let up the pressure and have the Ukrainians dig in more/better. It has been reported the Ukrainians are getting their act together and building new and improving existing lines in that region, which they have neglected to do since the war started.

It does seem like the Ukrainians are going for the Hold and Build strategy this year, hopefully this spring we will see more mobilization efforts and increased funds and arms shipments from the West.
