Found a holy mace, and am tempted to turn my pawn back into a fighter just because of that, because it's the only weapon I've found that does good damage against undead enemies/bosses.

So I've gotten Trickster to rank 5. Going to spoiler my thoughts just in case someone wants to be completely blind to it.

It's a fun class, but you absolutely have to rely on your pawns for damage, because your censure does nothing. I will say that I ran a warrior, sorcerer, and archer with the trickster and we managed to get from the capital to elf town without taking too much in the way of permanent health damage. That includes fighting a cyclops, an ogre, and a chimera.

So like, it's a decent class for tanking and you can make sure none of your guys really take any damage so long as you're good with keeping the illusion up, but I don't think I will continue to play it once I max out the vocation. I haven't had a chance to try out the illusory floors yet, but the walls don't seem to actually do anything?

Super interesting vocation, I'm going to play around with it some more. I may not have just tapped into what this vocation is capable of yet.

That's been my experience as well, at the same rank. It's a really unique class with some fun mechanics. The main issue I have is that to really get the most out of the cooler abilities, the terrain and types of enemies need to be just so. There's so many little fights where it just basically does nothing useful. As much as I wanted this to be THE class, I think I'm going to go back to Thief. At least until I can try Mystic Archer later on.

I'm going to give it til I at least max the vocation, but yeah, it's very situational so far.

I found him in that same town but apparently you can get the vocation during the (minor story spoiler) return to Melve with the second dragon attack

I wonder if he has more dialogue if you get it then.

gotta say it was very funny to get an escort quest for an old man with a bad back that walks as fast as your out of stamina stumble and get accosted by a complete menagerie of things like stone lizards, bandits, harpies, goblins, skeletons and a gore minotaur. (the game functionally implies you're supposed to carry him which is significantly faster), what's even funnier is that when he scrambles to get away from stuff when you put him down he actually moves at a normal speed. that mother fucker just wanted a big lady to carry him

Honestly the mystic archer unlocking so late isn’t the worst part, it’s the dwarves smithing. Knockdown is king and by far the best upgrade path for bows and daggers, puts them on par with warrior maces but it’s basically gated to a new game+.

Definitely still having weird aggro issues. I have no idea if it's related to gaol interactions at this point.

Haven't had any problems with guards since I allowed myself to be re-arrested, but I just finished a quest and the questgiver went nuts at me. I ended up burning a wakestone on them, and then they were chill and delivered some post-quest dialogue.

This is not really a sustainable thing unless I start shamefully paying real money for wakestones. Might have to give the game a break and then start anew if this keeps up. Sure wish we had multiple save slots, now! :\

Some more trickster talk, I played mage and sorcerer to ten. Thief to 4. I then played trickster to ten and have spent the most time on Trickster.

Trickster, more than any class it seems, needs to hit 3 to do really anything. Seems like a design error, because most people might get the specialty say "What the gently caress is this. I'm not doing anything and can't do anything" and just move on.

What makes the class viable, or the most obvious component of it, is its buff to pawn damage that comes at level 3 and is strengthened at level 5. Without it, your party damage will noticeably drop. Aromatic Rally is your compensation. It feels powerful. It needs to scale and I'm not sure if it does. People online have said it scales off magic, which would make sense. Trickster, though often your contributions are harder to feel, can seemingly do as much damage as any other class just from this one ability.

The rest of the class gimmick involves drawing aggro and running your ghost around. Then, when you get it, getting your maister skill to cause chaos to groups and to eventually knockdown larger enemies.

Every other ability seems kind of like a gimmick. Illusory walls/floors require preparation and will make encounters longer and more fraught. There's an ability that focuses on seeing enemies through walls.

Most trickster abilities are kind of bordering on useless or require too much from the player to make work. There seems to be exactly three good abilities with two edge cases in espial incense and latching effigy.

I'm 50/50 on it. Thinking it's fun/interesting, but also wanting more from it, wanting it to feel less obtuse.

Also, crucially, it's the one magic class with no mobility skills. For how much running around you do on this class, nothing in it helps you with that. That to me is the biggest bummer with it. Let me fly like mage/sorceror or switch places with my ghost. Seems like there had to be a switch places with ghost ability at one point.

Just popping in, how good is DD2 on PC specifically? I've seen a lot of chatter about microtransactions but it looks like the DMC5 genre of MTX (where it can give you a head start but mostly it's just things that you get naturally while playing) so not worried about that.

Like, does it keep up the DD1 style of DMC-ish combat + SotC style climbing? Is the performance okay-ish and are there any PC-specific caveats? I'm itching to play but not sure if I wanna drop in early via a Fanatical deal or wait till a sale or something.

There is some slowdown in big cities, dips to 25-30 sometimes there but everywhere else it runs well. And yeah in many ways this is just an enhanced rehash of the original, so the combat still kicks rear end.

Anyways I met the sphinx and I can see why people have the hots for her! she can make me worse

that said her seeker's token quest is the most psychotic quest I've ever seen in a game, I think. I headed back and ran around a lot until I gave in and checked a map online and visited a few locales. mine was the token in a harpy's nest a bit west of the starter town. unfortunately I don't think I would've been able to accomplish this without using outside resources. I'm directionally clueless to begin with!

She's not all bad though, with one of her other riddles you can dupe an item, so bring a portcrystal along.

I think about half the classes are kinda screwed there, Mage/Sorc/Magick Archer/Archer/Mystic Spearhand/Warfarer can do it pretty trivially but Fighter/Warrior/Thief/Trickster don't really have ranged attacks and I haven't found throwblasts or any other throwing weapon consumable.

they're nighttime undead like the big chungus knights & liches so you might find one if you're out at night in some areas. i like adventuring at night b/c i think the game does night time very well. my particular Dullahansanity is main quest related. i think they need to tone it down, in the span of a brief jaunt i fought 3 of them in a row and while its nice to finally fight some i dont actually find them very fun (they do look cool with their moves and poo poo)
