Which vocations is it the most OK to have higher weight load on? Googling this just keeps bringing up people asking about character weight, rather than inventory/equipment.

Maybe Warrior/Fighter or the magic ones due to less need for quick movement?

Gotta disagree. If anything the relentless encounters drain the believability of the world - how does trade between Battahl and Vermund function when you're accosted by saurians/goblins/bandits every two minutes? If they wanted to provide life to the world while maintaining a sense of danger, they should have had strong city guard patrol groups walk the roads and independently keep them clear during the day, or maybe mercenary groups that charge travelers tolls. Then a player could attack the patrols for loot at the risk of making the road less safe for themselves in the future. That would be interesting and dynamic and believable. Right now it's just tedious

Tarezax posted:

Also there's a bunch of random adventuring parties you can encounter in the wilderness that seem more than capable of handling the smaller monsters out there. I've also seen traveling peddlers out there with armed guards, though not all of them seem to have escorts.

Yeah I've seen a bunch of 4 person groups walking around, as well as people buying/selling on the road. There are also individuals already in fights who might be about to lose (some of them are pawns I've ended up hiring), and others looking for escorts. The roads seem pretty busy and people display vague goals, a lot of them will just tell you to go away which I think is a realistic detail.

Propaganda Hour posted:

You mean you don't like fighting packs of slightly redder wolves in Battahl? Or slightly greyer hob-goblins? Or slightly larger harpies?

The frustrating thing is that there are tiny rats, spiders, and bats in caves. Just make those things like 300% bigger and ya got yourself an RPG stew cookin'

Yeah I went into a cave where one of my Pawns said something about spiders which got me pumped up, but they were about the size of my foot which was like...oh :shobon: I've also seen things that look like blood sucking leeches hopping around.
In the first game tiny enemies like that could give you toxin status, which from memory was a DoT like poison, but was incurable without items (poison would diminish on its own over time).

Deformed Church posted:

The problem with trash mobs every few steps is that they're just fundamentally not fun or interesting or compelling. Saurians and goblins and bandits haven't made me feel like the world is actively dangerous since about hour 5, because I can kill whole groups in one or two spells and my pawns slap the rest to death (or just stand around staring at gently caress all while I do the work, so I guess the trash mobs do expose the dodgy AI). They don't drop interesting loot at this stage, they offer no reason (or really opportunity) to play with the game's more fun combat mechanics, and they don't really add to the narrative or feeling of the world because they say and do nothing except double the length of every trip because I have to stop and cast high salamander twice.

Ultimately I think the game would be far better served by having fewer encounters but use more of it's bigger enemies, which are more threatening, more interesting to fight, and drop stuff I might actually care about.

Like, the game is a lot of fun, but I wish I could get to the fun with a little less faffing around in between.

I have a similar issue but the other way around, where I am the max vocation Warrior but my mage and sorc pawns are killing the Saurians before I can even finish charging up a swing. The smaller enemies like goblins also move around quickly enough that they'll be out of range. It seems like my role is more about knocking stronger enemies off balance or just drawing aggro and tanking damage without a shield.

LibbyM posted:

Enemies definitely stopped being a threat really early on. I've been doing every side quest so I'm sure I'm over leveled for the part of the world I'm in, but I don't even think about night or day anymore, I just charge out into the wilderness do to whatever quest I have because who cares. don't even bother with a lantern since I'm just sticking on the path 95% of the time anyway, and its not like suddenly stumbling into melee range with a skeleton is really a threat.

I go out during the day just because I like to see more of the world around me, but I guess undead enemies drop unique materials and some quests only happen at night. As others have said the lack of enemy scaling becomes very noticeable.

neosloth posted:

Yeah I think between the pawns and the oracle figuring out what to do isn't too bad. But some of the quests are obtuse and I'd just look them up.

No idea who that is but I was talking about the middle post claiming that ferry stones costing ten k was absurdly overpriced.

I'm not a fan of micro transactions obviously, but when it doesn't even figure the slightest amount into me playing the game I find the whinging about it to be pretty ridiculous. It's fully optional and unnecessary and doesn't provide any advantage over other players since it's a single player game. If some people want a very very slight shortcut they can go for it, and further support a type of game I really like and want to see more of. I hope they do, to be honest. Games take a lot of money to make these days.

And if she was a true hardliner you'd think she could just do without playing the game at all? You don't have to buy the game or the other stuff, in fact probably better not to if you really want to make a point.

It's a lot like the stuff in Helldivers 2. Extremely mild and optimal but if you want to pay and help make the game more of a success that's fine too. Like this one, that one got review bombed as well but has probably recovered already because everyone realized it's a great game.

it's definitely not a good look that steam lists DLC you don't own right next to the launch button, and the most recent time I loaded steam one of its big store ads was "here's DLC you don't own for that game you were playing" and it's all DD2 funny money. idk how it looks on playstation and xbox but I think it would be received a lot better on steam if it was simply much less obvious. it's kind of a force multiplier for negative sentiment because a lot of people already aren't going to like this game game even if the mtx weren't there because the design is intentionally divisive and going to push a lot of players away no matter what. then you have the performance issues which mean a lot of the people who are nominally onboard with the game still have something serious getting in the way of their enjoyment.

I think helldivers was a different situation because everyone loved the game itself, so it was easier for complaints about the monetization to be deflected with "none of that poo poo matters, this game is fun as hell and you need to come play with us" where people had friends shouting at them to come play together if they could just log in. with DD2 I would still say "none of that poo poo matters" but there's fewer people saying the second part.

also, HD2 costs $40 USD and DD2 costs $70. expectations are higher and it’s a lot harder for players to ignore extra monetization when $70 is already viewed as too high for new games.

Personally speaking, I think it's just a transparent bid to join the culture war that grew up around this game for weird and seemingly arbitrary reasons. Basically every modern capcom game since DMC5 at least has had pretty much this exact style of "you can buy a pitiful amount of in-game items that you'll be able to earn within an hour of play" microtransactions. RE2 and 4 Remakes sell "deluxe weapons" and basically every RE game has costumes or "unlock everything" DLC too. But there wasn't a massive internet shitstorm over those. RE4 has roughly $100 in DLC if you don't count Separate Ways.

But for some reason the internet has chosen this game, specifically, to flip out over. And it's kind of just an ongoing meltdown that began with people losing their minds over the character creator demo being "woke" because the exact same people who were going insane over that immediately pivoted to saying the game was broken, literally unplayable, and paywalled fast travel and character customization and all that other poo poo within hours of the early release and streams.

it's presumably something similar to other RE engine games where there's a hidden value that tracks roughly how well you're doing in combat (like damage taken, number of times your pawns get knocked out, etc.) and it adjusts enemy damage taken/dealt modifiers as a consequence. it might just be that the combat balance is borked enough with poo poo like sorcs/thieves/arcane archers that the modest adjustments aren't enough to make much of a dent

I imagine that it probably only goes in one direction, the same as Resident Evil 4. Where the game makes encounters easier every time you die, but doesn't have anything to scale the difficulty in the other direction.
