Lindelof didn't misunderstand anything. The Watchmen series was great, particularly because it poked holes in a lot of the boomer bullshit that Moore put into the original comics (that nobody had previously dared to criticize because it was considered such a classic). Taking a second to think "hrm...I wonder what the actual effect on the culture would be and how Vietnamese people would react if the US had annexed Vietnam as the 51st state" is already doing more than Moore did. Hell, considering what any non-white person might be thinking or doing in the world of Watchmen is more than Alan Moore ever took a second to consider.

I'm sorry the comic book was too deep for you.

It is wrong. Drives me nuts because it is how my partner watches movies sometimes. Frustrating.

But also watch how you want.

No, if I didn't finish a movie in one sitting it's because I didn't like it. Sometimes I think I'll go back and finish it later, but I never do.

For like, 20 years I'd watched the second half of Jaws if I spotted it channel surfing. The part where they're hunting for the shark on the boat. By chance I caught it from the start one day. It was alright. First half is no second half. I didn"t care about the lovely mayor and I didn"t like that chalkboard scene.

It's only happened twice for me and both times because I started the movie too late in the evening though Killers of the Flower Moon was also because of how long it is if it was a normal length film I woulda got it done in one sittting. The other was Insidious and I wished I'd left the rest unwatched because it went from a genuinely scary ghost movie to the goofiest poo poo.

It's a piece of JUNK!

Many movies have a troubled production process, but this one feels like the studio is under some sort of curse that requires that they must finish it. Like even the most die-hard fans would totally understand if they just gave up on it, yet they just keep trying anyway.

I avoided Rogue One for a long time but it turned out to be the only Star Wars movie since ROTJ that I liked (still haven't seen Solo or ep 9 and never will, God willing), and I'd rank it right after Empire and A New Hope. Although they were brief, the very worst parts were all the bits with Vader, including the final sequence — Final Fantasy Peter Cushing was tasteless and bad, but at least his character had a reason to be there, and Ben Mendelsohn jockeying with him for power was a great subplot culminating in, for me, one of the most memorable effects shots of the last decade

All this is to say that, compared with Prometheus, Rogue One is Citizen Kane

Got any deathsticks?
Rogue One isn't helped by the first two thirds being boring as gently caress and the third act being entertaining but also hacked to bits with reshoots. Krennic is a great villain and the third act is mostly pretty good, but there's too much going against the movie by studio mandate that keeps me from recommending it.

The only good part of Rogue One is the space battle the rest stinks. The Death Star's exhaust port weakness being purposeful sabotage shows that the writer/director/whoever did not understand Star Wars. And the badass Vader scene makes no sense when viewed with A New Hope it's clearly informed by Vader's pop culture status.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
Rogue One doesn't fully commit to what it wants to say. The space battle at the end is fine, but it's just aping ANH. Th ground battle is dumb and always reminds me of the board game Mousetrap. I give it credit for at least trying to do something interesting.

Rogue One is a fringe case where said studio meddling (i.e., bringing in Tony Gilroy for a re-work) is probably what gives us that pretty good third act. I don't know, maybe Edwards' cut was something that really came together into a coherent, thoughtful, and entertaining whole, but after seeing The Creator a few weeks ago, I'm not inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt. His movies sure look good, though.

I thought it made sense enough- he's personally leading the charge through the big ship trying to get there before the small ship escapes, because they've seen the movie and they know that's where the Princess and the plans are going to go. At the beginning of ANH, they have the little ship docked to their own ship, so there's not really any sense of urgency as long as they keep an eye out for the escape pods.

As a genre, China doesn't produce alot of scifi novels for political reason. There are tons more Isekai and "travel back to ancient China" type online novels because they are infinitely safer. The author of 3 body is one of the few writers who took on scifi as a profession and he is considered the best by the Chinese. So if you want to give an award to China, 3 body is one of the very few options.
