That's kinda what I always assumed. People thinking anything else is some kind of Just World fallacious thinking. Although I think when you get to big earner director levels people are often pretty nice and good at interacting with people, it's a mixed bag. E: poo poo post poo poo snipe. So they allow family planning and they became synonymous with the rural worker during the time that workers forced the hand of government from the Gilded Age into the Progressive Era, about the closest that the USA ever got to some kind of social policy (also things like the FDA which MAGAs think is what socialism is). Also the era when Marx did a lot of writing about America and how he saw the workers directly fighting the bosses as a logical outcome of the exploitative nature of Gilded Age capital. Lenin should have loved jeans.

Does anyone know why we have 12,000 people browsing the forums right now? I've noticed a few times recently that numbers are sometimes much higher than usual, has the site changed the way it counts people?

for gently caress's sake these fragile dickheads I wonder if that's actually any good. The idea kinda repulses me but who knows, maybe it's one of those weird things that works anyway. I saw Michael Portillo at Madrid airport once in 1999. Ugh.

Easter the celebration is already completely thematically disconnected from Easter the religious observance. One of them is about the death and resurrection of Jesus, the other is about rabbits, chocolate eggs, and spicy breads. Even Christmas generally has the nativity scene and songs or whatever. Other than the actual churches, which usually do something featuring the crucifixion, everywhere else has fully embraced cartoon Easter. Even our local priest spent the day blessing chocolate eggs with holy water. The eggs are for kids in families using foodbanks so I'm not mad online about it, I just thought it was interesting how chocolate eggs have even inserted themselves into the rites in a way that some of the tradcath weirdos would probably find a way to get outraged over, but if that goes then who on earth is mad about Easter cheese?

Christians: I should donate an Easter egg to the church so that a child has something nice to look forward to. Terminally Outraged Fuckwits: Easter cheese?! Ohh but I bet they'd never make Ramadan cheese with bacon and whiskey in it, would they? People would say "oh that's offensive", but they don't care about offending us.

They should mix up their poo poo trolling instead of just importing white evangelical culture war bullshit from the US. Maybe go for "the St. George's Cross is a religious symbol and so should not be flown at godless secular sporting events" to see if they can get the right to punch themselves in the face. They won't though, because that's not the point of them. HopperUK posted:I saw Michael Portillo at Madrid airport once in 1999. Ugh.

Bobby Deluxe posted:The idea that bullies don't prosper has always been wishful thinking. Those who master the ability to scream and shout at others that they see as less than them tend to grow up into adults who scream and shout at others they see as less than them. And being a pushy sociopathic twat is pretty obviously a clear way to coerce other people into doing what you want. I don’t think it’s necessarily the case that people who remain bullies into adulthood prosper. In my experience they tend to make it to lower/middle management and not a lot higher. The majority of adults are not bullies, and on an interpersonal level are decent people, and as you get higher people tend not to want to work with bullies and have the power to stop that from happening. What I suspect is happening is that kids who show aggressive behaviour are often bullies, and aggressive behaviour with the edges rounded off can be very useful in later life - translating into an unwillingness to be trodden on, ability to make your voice heard, confidence speaking in difficult situations, willingness to be forthright about what you want etc. This is all my personal theorising but I don’t think the study is suggesting people who continue to be bullies into adulthood fare better than those who don’t.

I think you'll find that a chocolate digestive is too indulgent to properly represent Jesus' sacrifice. It should be a Rich Tea biscuit, but not just any Rich Tea biscuit; it should be a stale one, way past the Best Before date, preferably with weevils. Also, there weren't enough Rich Tea biscuits to go around, so we had to give the chocolate digestives to the priest.

Most of the bullies from my school have gone on to upsettingly senior positions in global banks and other financial institutions. But then they all came from very wealthy families and played rugby at county level, so idk if it's more just classic British nepotism coming into play rather than the bullying.
