I think with Hagatha you really want to hit Once Upon and Wish Upon so you can curve them 6 into 7, or Shudderblock into Wish Upon. Tumbleweed and Pack the House don't feel right to hit and have anti-synergy with Shudder. So in Reno I feel like Hagatha is usually a glorified draw 2 while in Reno-less it is very powerful. Tendrils are fun in a clown-fiesta way with a clear win-con but it also feels like you don't have much control for the same reasons.

Scrub-Niggurath posted:Been having a lot of fun with Reno Shaman, definitely feels viable against a lot of the field. You've got good defense and healing for the burn shamans, the control tools for the DKs, strong board clears for the Hunters and DHs, strong taunts for the Paladin matchup, and just good overall flexibility. Control warrior is definitely the tough matchup but you can put on a lot of pressure especially if you get Shudderblock rolling. Hagatha has historically been the source of a lot of fun. In fact, her hero card currently back in the rotation in Arena and boy oh boy am I excited to play a deck with it as opposed to against.

I played one random game with Hero Power Druid in order to clear the Jeppeto quest, and I ended up getting Raza from Sky Mother Aviana. Turns out that card is pretty good in Hero Power Druid!

I mean, that’s been the bugbear with Blizzard’s balancing philosophy for at least a year. Some deck is always going to be the best, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to nerf it. Reddit is going to complain about any deck that lets their opponent play cards and beat them; that doesn’t make them “sentiment outliers” or whatever.

People loving loathe consistent out-of-hand combo decks, I don't know why it's surprising that they get nerfed almost immediately if they're tier 1 or 2. Especially when it's a true 30+ combo, not just a high-damage finisher. Blockhouse posted:Yeah now it has literally nothing f to do with shaman at all I think they went with quick-and-easy instead of inventive on this one. Removing windfury and 1 mana cost was a pretty surefire and safe way to trim the card to "...playable, I suppose" territory. That said, dual-class nerfs have always hit strays and it's pretty clear that Blizzard just accepts that as the cost of doing business. Personally I think that's an understandable viewpoint once the cards have been released. The time to do high-effort tweaking is before set release, not after.

However, they’re consistently popular archetypes even when they’re not good, and have been for quite some time. (I remember when Boomsday launched you couldn’t move for people trying to make Mecha’thun decks work, and that card was never more than a meme in Standard.) There’s always people who are drawn to that playstyle, whether it’s OG Malygos or DK Uther and Brewmasters or Questline Priest. I think you have to take a more nuanced approach and determine whether something is actually causing real problems and suppressing deck diversity or if it’s just the normal “A deck beat me, the best Hearthstone player in the world, and that can’t be! Nerf the thing that beat me!” whining that pops up any time a deck is good. I personally don’t like OTK decks, playing or playing against. But I’m not the only player, and I don’t think I’m particularly representative.

hearthstone is a game where you can't interact with what your opponent is doing on their turn, and as such being able to OTK (especially *from hand*) is always going to be varying levels of unhealthy for the game

Yeah, Secrets are the only Interrupts we have, so you can't make reliable OTKs, because otherwise, they're reliable OTKs.

I'm not sure Wheel of Death is the problem there, I think it's Symphony (combined with losing Steamcleaner). It trivializes the downside of Wheel a bit too much for the control matchups, and Warlock in general is just well-positioned to handle aggro.bravesword posted:I would amend this to say that people loathe being on the wrong end of from-hand combo decks. I also agree with the previous point that Hearthstone's general lack of interaction means that OTK, specifically, can both be hated more than it might deserve and also be wise to leave in the dumpster all the time. For all the poo poo that Reddit gets I will say that my impression has been that the hate for Paladin is centered around Charge minions being an auto-kill for everyone but Warrior (which is fair IMO) and the requirement of always needing to keep their board clear even they haven't been able to superbuff a Leeroy (which is also kinda fair at this stage of rotation, when removal is pretty weak and we should be at peak On-Board Interaction). I haven't seen people complaining that Paladin can get +3/+3 to their in-hand minions by turn 3 even though that's significantly powerful.

I feel like the more hate than love is true regardless though. People hate braindead aggro ruining their fun, or control removing all their minions or midrange just having way too much value. Whatever's good will attract a stream of haters.

Pally was weak against taunt / wide boards, definitely not simple to set up the OTK. But charge just feels bad to play against, and HS devs have long punished "feels bad" anyway, picked up one of the Plague DKs off HS Replay and shutting down Warriors feels good

You could conceivably increase the timer by having it trigger at the beginning of your turn rather than the end, effectively giving your opponent an extra turn to beat you. In fact, I’m surprised it didn’t work that way in the first place — that’s how other “in [X] turns” effects (Rhythm and Roots, etc) tend to function.
