Soon I'll be suffering through Path of Exiles story. Why do I do it? I want to see if my Kitava's Thirst Volatile Dead Lightning Warp (it gets like 10+ casts a second of lightning warp ZOOOM) actually works. Will I get bored before I get to that point? Probably. Will I spend at least 8 hours before I say gently caress it and stop? Yeah probably. Would I be happier watching Jericho (like my third or fourth watch I think) or playing Backpack Battles? Absolutely. Anyway my build is pretty sweet let me explain it to you all. Kitava's Thirst has a 50% chance to Trigger Socketed Spells when you Spend at least 100 Mana on an Upfront Cost to Use or Trigger a Skill, with a 0.1 second Cooldown So I'm going to use lightning warp to trigger volatile dead. For corpse generation I have cast while damage taken descrate/unearth triggered by eye of innocence. Ignite chance is 100% thanks to Elementalist. I get extra cast speed with the necromancer node that gives it on corpse consumption. I get the necromancer node by using Forbidden Flesh and Forbidden Flame. The corpses are consumed by volatile dead. I reduce my skill duration using timeclasps so lightning warp is faster. This also gives me recoup for mana and life which as well as cast speed. A replica reckless defense allows me to ignite myself from the eye of innocence damage.

Who came up with red = health, green = stamina, and blue/purple = mana? I think it's about time for an update to that.

red=health probably comes from the facts that blood is red and that losing blood typically results in your health going down irl.

Pretty sure that Diablo was a big influence on that standard. It definitely was using the blood=health logic, and then blue is a nice contrasting color for mana. Green for stamina mostly comes from dark souls, right? LOZ Skyward Sword? Idk.

Maybe Skyrim? A lot of people played Skyrim, and I think it was yellow in Morrowind but these days I definitely assume green is stamina. Technically green is just an advanced yellow so it covers a wide range.

It's because having your lifebar be any other color than red is just weird

The yellow bars you’re remembering are for the enemies health.

Legend of Zelda had red hearts for life, but most NES/SNES games had green life bars with red for damage It really was Diablo that locked in red=life blue=mana, red potion blue potion thing

In the Super Mario Brothers porn parody the stamina bar was green so that's probably the first known occurrence of green for stamina

Zelda games used green for magic all the way until Skyward Sword where they buckled to the industry standard and made it stamina, another black mark against that terrible game.

I put 60 hours into BG3 before uninstalling it at the halfpoint of Act 3. If I get into a game and hit around the 50 hour mark, my interest just craters. Usually I just switch games and revisit it if I haven't finished it (or if it's Kenshi) a few months later. Will probably do that with BG3, though I'm not really into the characters and writing.

In balatro the number of hands is you hp (hand points??), your cards in hand are your mana, and your number of discards are your stamina. I think this will be the norm going forward.

Wait, Diablo IV has persistent always on enemy level scaling? So in a game about grinding to make number go up, number never actually go up?

Barudak posted:Wait, Diablo IV has persistent always on enemy level scaling? So in a game about grinding to make number go up, number never actually go up? It's even better. It's per character level scaling so if you and your friend are fighting a monster it has a health pool proportional to each's characters damage output until you reach max level and start playing on further difficulties. So your lvl 1 friend is doing roughly the same kinda damage as you on lvl 30 to the same monster but you each see different numbers fly out.

In Diablo 3 I recall that it was often better to bring a low level player because of the weird damage scaling and they could deal more damage than your high level character. It's actually a pretty brilliant design, really helps push people away from their terrible casino genre.

There's a discord where you can hang out and get help and stuff. It's cool as hell. Also there are a number of graphical overhaul things to make it look less like poo poo to address WHH's problem.
