I'm sure the game completely shattered even their most optimistic predictions (it's still nailed to the #1 spot in Steam's top sellers after weeks) so they're really not worried about cash flow yet.

I just ran round a corner and panicked when I saw a bot running at me and unloaded my liberator into its chest. Except it was my team mate and we both laughed it off and went on to finish the mission. Aside from random kicks (which may or may not be stability issues) I've had no trouble so far

I've played the game exclusively with randoms for ~150 hours and have had I think 2 games I would describe as toxic. No way it's happening 25% of the time.

So how the gently caress does the campaign progression even work, because its extremely unclear in game and I don't think its really explained anywhere at all? I see that planet that got invaded is now under bot control, and one of the planets we were attacking earlier is now cut off but the liberation % remains. So can that be opened up again by recapturing the invaded planet, or possibly also Malevelon Creek? And at what point during any of this does Tibit open up, or is that just physically impossible now? And when the planet we were attacking earlier opens up again, does the liberation get reset or does that just remain frozen for now?

I've played with randos as host and the worst I've seen is high level people dropping, dying, and leaving in a huff. Well, that or just going off to do things on their own. Haven't had to kick anyone or anything. I've got crossplay turned off so maybe it's worse on PS5.

So the planets are all nodes and some are linked to each other. No i have no idea why those lanes arent shown. As far as I know, if Draupnir gets retake Ubanea will get reopened for invasion. I think it will keep some of the progress but liberation% seems to fall by time so it won't be like the planet is just frozen at 95%, but will eventually be harder. Once Ubanea is taken I think Tibit should open up. I also don't think Malevolon Creek connects to Ubanea so capturing it won't help the major order.

What I don't know is if the bot invasions play by the same rules, ie, if Ubanea had been liberated would that have stopped the invasion of Draupnir?

Malevelon Creek isn't linked to Ubanea so taking it won't help. No, you can't see the links between planets anywhere in the game.

Tibit is only reachable through Ubanea. It's probably still physically possible to do the major order if most of the player base focuses on Draupnir, Ubanea, and Tibit.

Ubanea liberation will slowly tick down at the current Automaton decay rate (-0.5%/hr) while it's cut off, so it really won't lose much before we can reach it again.

Each planet has invisible supply lines, if they get cut off the planet is no longer available to fight. The liberation percentage will decay slowly, based on the normal decay rate for that faction, which I think is 0.5% per hour for bots. So if the supply lines are opened up again, by liberating Draupnir, Ubanea will be open again and will retain most of its progress. Malevolon Creek does not have a supply connection to Ubanea and won't grant access to it if liberated.

i would be surprised if they said this because it's really not true at all. i hate to break the kayfabe or whatever but the devs can and have been tweaking things like the rate of liberation decay in order to ensure that certain planets are or are not lost and to ensure that certain orders are completed. there was dialogue from the democracy officer talking about the TCS campaign having already succeeded and causing bug mutations when it had only just started because those files were already in the game. the galaxy map campaign is basically smoke and mirrors and will be until the illuminate are introduced

My guess is that the current map screen is going to pull out a few sectors to show a bunch more sectors under bug and bot control aside from these few that are butting up against Super Earth Territory, and that's when we'll see the next faction show up in the sectors toward the bottom.

I feel like Arrowhead is playing a smart long game, intentionally or not. People are gonna get the first few Premium Warbonds for free, and then as they play less they won't have the 1000 SCs for one that shows up but will go "oh well I've got so many for free, its fair I pay for one" and once they pay for one they'll be softened on paying subsequent ones.

Not everyone, but enough people will be in that state it'll continue to do well. They've bought a lot of goodwill, and I believe non cynically.

The back end guy/Joel is doing wargaming/cyoa, you draw up an alternative path for each choice you put before the players. If they succeed, your story goes this way, if they fail, it goes another way. The overarching narrative is likely already thought out in broad strokes but the players fill in a lot of the blanks, and determine how you get there, if they make enough choices they can change the course of history.

I mean, the obvious route is to change the rate of persistent degradation on liberation progress. I've also seen two dispatches saying that it was going to be harder to fight bots/bugs (one each) and I suppose that could be both in-mission difficulty bumps or represent a change to that passive flow.

They do this, see dispatches "spores detected on bug planets, automatons resistance increased' dispatches. These change the rates at which liberation is reduced. They don't do it hard enough to guarantee an outcome but more to adjust for how hard the playerbase is going, so the outcome is up in the air. I feel like the defense missions have been the catalyst for which major orders fail, they throw a huge wrench in the progress.

the major orders don't really matter either way. if this current campaign fails the message is probably going to be "oh no, the robots have gunships because we couldn't take their factories" if the players lose or "we found out that the robot gunships were being made on another planet" if they win. the outcome is ultimately going to be the same and nothing will change because the devs aren't going to not add the new featuers and game modes that they're working on

people have data mined all of the dialogue for the current story critical major orders and iirc a decent number of them don't even have failure options.
