See this makes more sense to me. I can't imagine people falling asleep to Hbomb screaming, but I can get falling asleep to somebody with a more relaxed delivery, that'd be more like having a bedtime story read to you or something.

I tried HBomberGuy once because he does have a very soothing voice 90% of the time, but the comical screeching, while it makes for a very entertaining video that I recommend watching, wakes me right up.

For the record, it was the Pathologic video.

I'm a bit busy today, but I managed to get access to this article and give this a quick browse. The general idea is that while having white noise on the background does not necessarily mean that you're going to get better sleep, a good part of the studies involved on the metastudy didn't fully define what kind of noise was being used here. There's studies with like, having low background noise on a hospital study, informal studies involving self-evaluation done at home, studies on how long a new born infant takes to sleep and so on. The article specifically requests that further study on how the color of the noise affects this rather than sound intensity is required. I'm not going to quote the whole thing due to :filez:, but it does corroborate that White Noise Machines aren't very effective.

how interesting....thank you for your time!

mycatscrimes posted:

It's infamously hard to get good sleep data because the conditions of a sleep study are already so removed from 'in situ' sleep conditions, and self reporting is not very reliable. It'll be interesting to see what data we find in the next decade or so as these reviews (hopefully) provide new directions for study.

For a long time I would get either an Hbomb or a Folding Ideas video or both in every autoplay, and there was a while last year where I’d fall asleep to a self-made playlist that would only go for about two or three hours, go into autoplay, and so I’d wake up at like 5:30-6 AM to the drumming from “Line Goes Up” or an interlude from Hbomb’s Deus Ex video for the 20th or 30th straight time

Get some plants with large leaves or one of those fake plastic leaves you can stick to the aquarium wall, they'd start figuring out they are more comfortable than the gravel or glass floor and sleep on them instead

Allison and Phelan watch a cheapo Jesse Ventura cash in biopic that was made right after he became governor. For some reason the movie decides to add in a fictionalized account of the Montreal Screwjob?

thanxs!!!
i remember watching that ages ago and thinking it was all fictional, like the bad WCW comedy with uhh jason lee or whatever. mostly because both movies tried really hard to make raven cool
when i heard references to governor jesse ventura i thought they were specifically talking about this film, like when people go "president camacho!!! idiocracy is a documentary!!". my logic for reconciling this with the fact that the jesse ventura biopic had no cultural impact and therefore did not merit repeated references would be "well they're referencing it right now by pretending this guy is real, no?? so it must have been a cult hit or something"

this sometimes happens when you consume US media without living in the US. i spent most of my childhood thinking Oprah wasn't real

Imo all bettas should be in planted tanks or tanks with soft fake plants. Even fish benefit from enrichment/simulating their natural environment. Also it's cute when they sleep on leaves.

Just roll a d20 and take that many bottles of melotonnin and you'll fall asleep no problem. Make sure you eat the bottles too because that's where all the nutrients are.

Do that or just have a dentist by your bed with the anesthesia mask telling you to count backwards from 100.

The weirdest part of the movie is how since it was unauthorized they make up a new wrestling organization for Ventura to be in called the "WDW" while using WCW wrestlers and facilities, except sometimes they don't bother covering up the WCW branding so there are signs about WCW Nitro on TNT in the 70s.

no that's just how it was. the WDW turned into the WCW after they lost the lawsuit with World Defenders of Wildlife. it was so sudden that it took them a few decades to change all the signs

Jesse has listened to like two tracks from FF6(Dancing Mad and Opera iirc) and otherwise is completely unfamiliar with it. someone recommended Terra's Theme to him, and that track alone made him go "okay, yeah, I HAVE to play this game." :allears:

god drat is terra's theme just an all-timer. doesn't matter if you even know what final fantasy is, it's just an emotionally powerful track all around. the pixel remaster version is also impeccable.

insanely late reply but I think you do not realize just how many people literally never shut down their PC. it is quite common to only use sleep mode because it's faster to wake it up that way, or just due to not giving a poo poo.

Patching together associations from a handful of papers isn't good knowledge formation especially if one is disposed to call a coping behavior dumb. If you've got tinnitus and it disrupts your ability to sleep should probably talk to your doctor about it before you'd consider listening to this thread, even if they aren't a specialist they will still have a much better general context to advise you.

No issues shooting the poo poo about research but just generally smart to be cautious about drawing conclusions re:health, though I do really like the channel healthcare triage from time to time, this recent one on artificial sweeteners is p alright:

To be fair those papers are extensive meta reviews of existing research which exist to compile and draw conclusions from large amounts of studies. But yes I agree that individual sleep troubles should be first and foremost advised by medical professionals and not the internet.
