This was not a good idea. Totally worth it though.

Going to Grande Prairie is almost never a good idea. Worth it for the awesome poster though.

I'm assuming for the RX8? Those should look pretty good.

Powershift posted:I'm assuming for the RX8? Indeed they should. Behold, Advan Racing Siena Generation 2 in 17x8.5 +35 They're a 2 piece wheel too, so I can play with width and offset later on if I want. They're also stupidly light. These are going to be the new AutoX/summer wheels.

Slow but steady progress. Half of the wheels and tires are now swapped over. It's weird that they look chunkier yet the tires are the same. It's just that the wheels are 0.5" narrower. The list of things to complete prior to the first AutoX of the season is growing not shrinking.

No turning back now. $756 all in for the entire season (year). 6 events. 5 Auto-X and 1 Super Auto-X.

That’s not bad compared to what track days cost.

My overnight parts from Japan have arrived (and I eventually remembered to take pictures). New engine mounts.

I love having a hard copy of the factory service manual. Time to run the positive battery cable the correct way from the trunk along the passenger sill and through the firewall to the engine bay. RIP my back though. I am 100% going to have to remove the blower motor assembly to get to the clutch master stamping on the firewall for RHD versions in order to drill the hole for the 0 gauge quick release. As for a small win: One can never have enough stickers. Especially informative ones.

As is tradition, I am procrastinating on pulling the HVAC blower with another project. The new water pump. Out with the old. In with the new. This better solve the cavitation problem and the resulting borderline overheating by the end of every AutoX run. So what am I going to procrastinate with next? I'm thinking engine mounts.

Nice penis pump. Isn't overheating the death sentence for rotaries?

Suburban Dad posted:Nice penis pump. Isn't overheating the death sentence for rotaries? There's "overheating" and then there's Overheating. Ideal operating temperature for a 13B-MSP is between 85-90C. I was seeing up to 98C at the end of an AutoX run. Above 100C is when things start to get dicey and the coolant seals typically start to let go around 105C (220F).

Out with the old. In with the new. NVH is just another word for driver feedback, right?

Am I mildly annoyed at Mazda for how they ran all positive 12V power from the battery? Yes, yes I am. I am not proud of this mess but it will suffice until I rewire everything when a new ECU goes in. Battery box is finally properly mounted. This would not be possible if the battery would not be a super light weight LiFePO4. The cables aren't finalized yet. I'm not quite sure how I want to route everything in the trunk yet. Mazda was kind enough to stamp the firewall for both RHD and LHD configurations. The clutch master cylinder stamping is the perfect sizing for the bulkhead power connector. Now I am all out of excuses for pulling out the HVAC blower and everything else in the way for drilling the necessary holes in the firewall.
