You have to rescue him from the Goblin Camp later. He'll eventually come to your camp in a night event, usually around the time you reach the mountain pass.

For me I didn't kill the Owlbear mother, I used Astarion to sneak to the treasure and steal it without violence.

The Cub then showed up at the goblin camp and it turns out the goblins killed his mom.

Then at the end he's given super steroids and turns into a giant armored Owlbear you can summon in the final battle but I of course didn't do that because I don't want my adopted son getting hurt

On my current honor run I got a Surprise round on the Owlbears and for whatever reason this made the cub hostile and join the fight. I non-lethal KO'd him (feels bad man) but he never showed up at the goblin camp or my camp or anything :iiam: rip to my feathered homie

At some point he usually shows up in the Chicken Chasing game. You can talk to him and he'll learn your scent to later follow back to camp

he can sometimes get stuck eating mom forever. if he won't move, use this console command.

code:
Osi.DB_FOR_BUGFIX_SendOwlbearCubToGOB(1)
this should send him to the goblin camp where you can proceed normally.

You plebians just don't know what epic literature is. You should try reading Stephanie Meyer, E.L. James, Dan Brown, or Ayn Rand.
Do the githyankis in this game have some kind of RNG superpower or am I missing something? Playing my first run on tactician, githyanki fights are a colossal loving pain in the rear end every time, way harder than everything else I've faced so far.

They never ever seem to miss and they deal massive damage both melee and ranged. I swear they don't have crossbows thay have loving cannons.

Is there a reason gnolls exploded out the hyenas? I was trying to investigate and assumed there was some plot hook or something to explain why animals exploded into gnolls.

It's described somewhere that hyenas that die due to some kind of traumatic event can give rise to gnolls. I think maybe if you succeed some kind of roll when you examine one.

You can always just pickpocket
Volo while he is in camp. There are no consequences of failing a pickpocket, and he always gets a few thieving tools and speak with animal potions every long rest. I do it just because finding those around the map can be a little annoying but not expensive.

That's gnoll lifecycle lore.

Origins of the Gnolls are that the Demon lord Yeenoghu wandered the world and hyenas that feasted on his kills turned into the first gnolls (via exploding out of their previous hyena body). Now particular gnoll champions are imbued with the demonic spirit of Yeenoghu (becoming a "Fang of Yeenoghu")and any of their kills that are feasted upon by hyenas turn into fully grown gnolls. Gnolls can tame packs of hyenas to travel around behind them to increase their numbers and in areas where hyenas are plentiful, a Fang of Yeenoghu can be a serious kingdom threatening issue that has to be hunted down.

Finally beat it! :toot: I am absolutely exhausted now.

The epic battle sequence was way too long and frankly overblown with the Final Fantasy-style cosmic spectacle. In a way it is less compelling than Gorion's Ward duelling Sarevok in a filthy underground temple just for being so much less grounded in the tangible.

I think the cinematic spectacle of BG3 is a bit much, a somewhat more grounded and literary tale could have been told that gave us 99% of the story and 100% of the cool gameplay capabilities for 10% of the budget, and give us space for long, tedious Chris Avellone monologues more philosophical themes, but of course the Hasbro empire would not significantly enrich itself by a game with the production values of Pillars of Eternity II, and this one is making them all the money.

Minsc killed the Red Dragon by throwing Dribbles' severed body parts at it :owned:

The final final boss thing with the brain in the brain made no real sense to me, and especially what it was I actually did. Also it was a pretty straightforward HP race that my party won in two turns, with my paladin finishing the thing off by running up in its face and SMITING EVIL with Haste and Cloud Giant Strength, doing over 100 damage in a single turn. God the thrill of unloading four smites in a row never gets old.

And at the end, everyone goes off a rad adventure that sounds like a subject for a great high-level D&D module (man I'd love to play Lae'zel's epic level gith revolution campaign across the stars), my character, the blazing, passionate paladin of the Oath of the Ancients, sworn to Lathander, god of the dawn, youthful vitality, and new ventures, retires...to Gale's tower in Waterdeep...to live among the books while Gale teaches wizard college and listen to his bitchy, jealous expy of Honor Harrington's loving treecat. I hope Gale knows how to please an 8 INT himbo boy who can barely read lmao

Gnolls loving rule, they're so metal. Yeenoghu the demon lord makes them insatiably hungry to the extent that it makes them violently and irretrievably insane, and their gift to him is the flesh they gorge on after going on rabid slaughter rampages. After butchering everyone and everything they come across, whole towns and caravans and fields of livestock, they drag the carcasses into big piles around the smoldering ruins they've made, devouring them, sometimes vomiting up the contents of their stomachs into the gore nests because they've choked the flesh down too quickly and too voluminously.

When the gore nests get to a sufficient size, they become a portal to Yeenoghu's Seeping Woods in the Abyss, and more fully grown gnolls start growing in veiny, fleshy cysts within the corpse pile. They crawl out, screaming and steaming and starving and wet with stinking puke and viscera, immediately going on a rampage for flesh to sate the curse of their slavering hunger.

They're like zombies but way WAY worse, they are just about the worst thing that can happen to an area.

Idk, this was the explanation given in Volo's Guide to Monsters, but I suppose we have learned to take his missives with a grain of salt. I may also be misremembering and attributing some of the demon behaviors from DOOM 2016 to gnolls, but if I am then that's only cause it's cool and I'm the DM :colbert:

Reading through a history of gnolls through various editions, it seems they've been getting more and more grimdark with each edition, but the part of them being literally birthed in blood and violence was introduced in 5e. Even in 4e though, they were already more demonic than humanoid.

This was an interesting read but I completely disagree with how the author constantly harps on the tragedy of not woobifying the demon hyenas. Gnolls are cool as gently caress, it rules that they're insanely evil and metal, why do people want this game to just be going around and solemnly affirming the trauma of every single fictional monster, like, just go rub one out to some furry porn and stop trying to make this game into a dog dating simulator.

Eh, the history of fantasy writing has also been a push-and-pull between people who want evil monstrous races that it's fun to fight, and people who point out that even the idea of a race that is always by-nature evil is pretty racist. It seems like D&D is trying to square this circle by making them much more explicitly demonic, rather than just dog people who happen to be evil, but it's also kind of arbitrary that they took them in such a different direction than goblins or kobolds.

No, they are literally created from the ontological clay of archetypal evil in mythic para-dimensional planes that are created by and for the metaphorical extension of human evil. They are not people, they are fictional effigies that answer the question "what if rape and murder and betrayal had a body?" If you want demons to not be evil, then you want them to not exist, because they are fundamentally an archetypal godform who exist solely to be reflections of the anti-social behaviors we fear.

If you want a demon to not be evil, allow me to point you towards: the angel. A demon that is not evil. It is fine for this to be true, because all of it is fake fantasy gobbledygook explicitly written to contain it for the purpose of making your little elf knight battle in epic fashion over the soul of the Eldritch McGuffin while you eat pizza with your friends and then go get stoned and see Dune 2.

Anyway I'm reminded of the exchange you can have with the mercenary trying to steal the githyanki egg and Lae'zel. The mercenary says the Society of Brilliance wanted the egg to prove an experiment that a Gith doesn't have to be inherently violent if raised out of that environment. Both the mercenary and Lae'zel are dismissive of the idea, but I'm pretty sure BG3 at least believes that is correct. Even Raph is kinda sorta implied to be a product of his environment.

If demons have agency and personhood (they do) then them being "always evil" is simply portraying a race of people as okay to murder indiscriminately, alignment is moronic but there are multiple extant ways to forcibly change the alignment of a creature in dungeons and dragons
