While I doubt there were any superstar professional players, polo was a fad among the Hollywood set in the 1930s, and celebrities like Spencer Tracy, Will Rogers, and Walt Disney were polo buffs. So some of the Hollywood glitz rubbed off on the game, and that might be why Alex Raymond decided to make Flash a polo star.
