Female dragons have an estrous cycle and go into heat for 1-3 days of every month. When not in heat, Female dragons cannot achieve orgasm and, in fact, sex causes extreme physical discomfort. Female dragons lay eggs and nurse their young with milk from their breasts. Their gender is woman.

Male dragons can become horny any time. Their gender is man.

Femme-male dragons have male gonads, but present as female and can voluntarily mimic the appearance of a female in heat. They can achieve orgasm from sex any time. Femme-male dragons will start to lactate if they sit on a fertilized egg long enough. Their gender is femme-male.

During the period when a male dragon cannot find a female in heat willing to mate with him, he is likely to seek out a femme-male for physical satisfaction. The majority of femme-males are bottoms.

Some females undergo a physical metamorphosis whereupon they take on a hypermasculine appearance, and become much larger and more physically aggressive than the other genders. When a female undergoes this transformation, she becomes a guardian. Guardians are considered a distinct gender, but not a distinct sex, as they still have an estrous cycle, mate, lactate, and lay eggs exactly like other females.

In dragon-language, there is a pronoun for each gender. For simplicity in Earth English, women, guardians, and femme-males default to "she/her" and men default to "he/him" unless a preference is otherwise made known.
