the comparisons to the dumbass skits that vince and bischoff used to air is dumb. that poo poo was unfunny poo poo no one wanted. however we all want to see a fight because the son of a famous actor and a man who has trained in martial arts for hundreds if not thousands of hours and yet remained the worst fighter of all time. and tony is saying he is giving us just that.

This is genuinely the dumbest thing this pathetic company has done and that covers a lot of ground.

The best case scenario is that this is a bait and switch and AEW leaked this to try and undermine Wrestlemania. To that point, 1) lol all the tickets are sold and the money's been made, 2) either all of the journalists are in on this work as well which destroys what little credibility they have left, or 3) they're working the journalists and the WB execs which only desperate people do (and given the ratings they're more than likely desperate as all get out).

From a surface, story level, what does this accomplish? Does it get the Bucks more heat? No, they weren't involved in the confrontation. Does it build up their match with FTR? Barely, if the concept is 'you were friends with someone who isn't here anymore" and that's a weak context. If it's to bring back Jack Perry, then loving lol because Perry is someone who wasn't worth a poo poo before, isn't worth a poo poo now, and won't be worth a poo poo in the future. I don't know if Perry's suspension was mentioned on TV before but even if it was, showing Perry being choked by Punk is the weakest way possible to bring him back. "Hey, this guy got his rear end kicked by a much bigger star, come watch the guy who got his rear end kicked!" That'll put butts in the seats.

So the real meat and potatoes is on the meta-level, which is AEW, being the Bucks and Tony, are still incredibly butthurt over Punk and are wanting to get back at him. The Bucks hate that Punk ethered them in public and then kicked both their asses with one arm, then refused to do the right thing and work with Punk to draw money and benefit everyone on the card. If you're in a leadership role, which supposedly the Bucks are even though they shouldn't be, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and own selfishness and do what's right to benefit the greater goal. Omega/Bucks vs. Punk/FTR with the real life hostilities as background is something that could have drawn attention and money and turned a negative into a positive and benefitted everyone. The Bucks are going to be fine financially no matter what, but for all of the people who were upset that Tony actually let people go, you don't have to do that if you have a finanically-profitable program that benefits the entire card. The people on top draw so that the people on the bottom earn and hopefully develop into people who can one day be on top and keep the cycle going. If the people on top refuse to draw money, everyone suffers.

As for Tony, he's showing again that he's far too thin-skinned to be in any kind of leadership position to any degree. He's failed at conflict resolution, he's failed in being able to make positives out of negatives, he's failed at leadership, he's failed at the most basic of PR, he's failed as a wrestling booker and as a person in general. He's someone who got to where he is not by virtue of his talent or abilities but by virtue of being a proud member of the Lucky Sperm club. His value to society is nil at best and a net negative in all reality.

CM Punk is gone from AEW. He's not going to draw ratings or money for them anymore. Punk viewed his time in AEW as so disasterous that it caused him to reflect on his time with WWE and realize that it wasn't so bad. Punk was the one person that Tony wanted more than anyone else, more than Cody or Omega or the Bucks. Bringing Punk back was to be Tony's crowning achievement, and that Tony then proceeded to squander said achievement to the point where Punk is now actively drawing money for his opposition is something he can't get over. Tony has no one to blame but himself but he'll do everything he can to blame Punk for Tony's own failings like a jiltered lover.

And in terms of "punching up," Tony doesn't get to punch up. He's got access to irresponsible amounts of wealth, none of which he earned on his own merits. He will never want for anything in his life. If/when this company implodes on its own hubris he'll still have multiple roofs over his head. He will never suffer any real consequences for his actions unless his father does the right thing and disowns his failson and forces Tony to actually try and succeed on his own merits, of which he has none.

Punk signing with AEW was the highwater mark for this company. Brawl Out was the end of the honeymoon and Punk quitting was the beginning of the end. Once the final chapter of the AEW book is written, which is coming sooner than later, this sad stunt will be another checkpoint on the decent to insolvency.

I DON'T GIVE A CRAP WHAT SHE BELIEVES THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS CHANGED MY LIFE #HUFFLEPUFF
In the book Fall of WWE written in 2030 this is the most pivotal week in the Nu Wrestling Wars. Paul had Cody lose to Roman again which started the end of their boom period while only a few days later Tony Released the Footage that was so amazing it started a new hot period for AEW while causing a Punk meltdown in WWE.

By the time the Ospreay Era began with him defeating Swerve at Wembley for the AEW title only weeks after the Summerslam main event imploded because Roman can't work and Punk's body exploded seconds into the match the WWE's defeat was sealed.
