well its less about that and more "drat, we are expected to take a bullet but get paid less." and "how come they treated us well in their country but abuse us in ours." All that was solid was melting into air. The social collapse of british rule in parts of India was kinda like the end of the chinese emperorship. People who had grown up knowing that the raj was a part of their lives just saw the social system upended. The brits right after world war 2 started doing things like more equitable sharecropping etc because people who knew how to use guns were starting to form insurgencies.

Western capitalism, is Capitalism. India isn't going to fill the void that maintains it going, they're not going to dispatch expeditionary teams to keep regions destabilized to keep business happy. To revert to 19th Century capitalism would mean The Number would have to go down, and that is the end of the world for these people. Capital has no where else to go, there are no bulwarks that can do for it like the US did in the 20th and the Britain did for the 19th.

My whole argument is that the US and the Capital would rather burn it all down out of pettiness and spite than just accepting smaller number finding refuge in a country that cannot do what other States have done for Capitalism in the past. Is it definitely going to happen, don'tknow. But at worst I'd give it a 50/50 shot the US pushes the button rather tham allow the global working class to not exsist under its thumb

I don't think you have to look for some unified bourgeois gestalt declaring one day that the save's hosed, obvious death spiral, let's check out the bad ending.

The worry's dancing down the primrose path from "destabilizers keep business happy, send 'em" to "the destabilizers might come home and destabilize us personally if we don't keep them busy, keep 'em churning no matter the diplomatic costs" to "we're being embargoed of a longterm military necessity, do we bring the destabilizers home all at once complete with bespoke dolchstoßlegende or do we see whether a limited strategic first strike can secure what we need?" Each of those is about one hyperventilation about January 6th away from being conventional wisdom.

just read Stopping the Panzers because of the extended ww3 universe threads and that's a cracking good read. great dry wit

quote:

Meyer thought of the attack as Wagnerian, but a modern audience would see it as more of a scene from a Mad Max movie, a wild charge of men and machines designed primarily to shock and overrun. “This is the way we fought in the East,” Meyer wrote in his memoirs, “but will these surprise tactics achieve the same for us here?”

The short answer was no.

not that that strategy had been working out for the nazis to the east either

also cackled a bit at the coda that he got off with 10 years for basically personally murdering dozens of canadians because they weren't worth prosecuting over

nothing more dangerous than being america's ally

Well this is ideal then since there's absolutely no way this deal is going to result in anyone new getting nuclear submarines

The US will lose ww3 because instead of choosing to take a radical break from the looping contradictions, they instead quiety resign and ride into the sunset never changing, smiling along the way.

And yeah to be clear gently caress that loving miniseries.

I watched some of it today. Amal Clooney's husband did a fantastic job. I thought the B-25 scenes were well shot, they seem to have used CGI less, or better, than Masters of the Air. Casting was great all around.

I am astounded that they didn't change Captain Aardvark getting away without consequences. Good for them.
