Oh man, I had that game, it was part some either, plug n play game system or a gba cartridge thing I had. Could not get the hang of it without a manual to explain it so I never stuck with it that one.

I knew all about the Brickster escape sequence but actively avoided it because I was too scared of messing it up. You had to slow him down with pizzas AND speed up the cops with donuts, that's too much responsibility to put on a kid!!

Yeah, gotta deliver the pizza to him before building the helicopter if you want that last box ticked otherwise.

Also fun fact buying me that game led to my parents having to figure out how to upgrade a PC for the first time because it needed a whopping 32 MB of RAM, and our PC only had 16. :v:

I loved that game as a kid, and can confirm it was very hard to balance everything.

Also it's apparently very difficult to get running on modern systems :argh:.

edit: Welp, discovered there's apparently a really good, and free, fan-made remake of Rock Raiders called Manic Miners. :stare:

The first game I (born 1998) ever played was Super Mario World because my WASP-as-hell grandparents owned an SNES (along with a N64 and PS2) for god knows what reason.

not "that era" but the Spybotics flash strategy game was pretty legit. making units take up more space by snaking through tiles as they moved is an inspired decision

It's the coolest moveset in any piece of media it's in. Only thing cooler than iaido is double-sword iaido. Next coolest style are the ninja ones. Watch any Rise of the Ronin or Nioh video and it's people always using that to create some of the coolest looking stuff.

Edit: Video also reminded me I need to keep an eye out for when that mega Zatoichi set that Criterion sells goes on sale.

Pannenkoek has returned with an extremely exhaustive look at invisible walls in Super Mario 64. The long length is because he goes over every single invisible wall in the game, the madman. We can finally know why you occasionally just bounce off of nothing in Mario 64. It's great seeing the nitty gritty of how this game works; his infographics are second-to-none.

Jim Davis does a thing every new MTG set where he constructs ten experimental decks during the streamer prerelease and tries them out. this one in particular is really funny. the entire concept of the deck is "gifting" bad cards to your opponent and stealing good things from them. it's a really unique kind of deck. opponent plays a bunch of utterly game-ending threats, and then you trade your absolute garbage for their top shelf cards, and your garbage, now under their control, ends up killing them or you kill them with their own cards.
