It could be really good if they're actually adapting the book and not just remaking the Arnold movie. The book is about how America is hosed with environmental collapse and a giant wealth divide while megacorps keep the population pacified with violent game shows. The main character is a guy who lost his job because they tried to unionize and he's forced to try out at an open casting call for said violent game shows because he can't afford healthcare for his sick daughter. He's chosen for the big show, The Running Man, where the player is just let loose in the world and have to try and survive against corpo hunters and audience participation in bounty rewards for turning him in.

That's exactly what it is. He was on a podcast recently talking about how much he loves the book.

I wouldn't - it would just be 90 minutes of Joe Russo loving Marilyn Monroe:

Joe Russo posted:

Hey, I want a movie starring my photoreal avatar and Marilyn Monroe’s photoreal avatar. I want it to be a rom-com because I’ve had a rough day,’ and it renders a very competent story with dialogue that mimics your voice. It mimics your voice, and suddenly now you have a rom-com starring you that’s 90 minutes long.

Youtube probably needs to require people to tag fake trailers in a similar way to sponsored videos at this point because they're getting out of hand

It looks completely loving terrible, so is the joke Marvel movies are this half-assed and bad looking now? Or is the joke this trailer is obviously fake so I'm going to laugh at you if you think it's real? I'm mostly confused why someone would post that trailer.

There's thousands of fake trailers that might as well be (and soon will be) AI generated, they're just up there to farm views from people tricked into watching them. I assume someone makes money off that somehow, I don't know how or why.

I'm honestly kinda fascinated by the question of who's making money at the top of so many of these schemes and spam outfits. There have been some looks at the people who actually do the work making spam social media accounts and tweeting "nudes in bio" but where does all the money end up?

Basically if you click on the video and watch it for more than _ amount of time it counts as engagement, with YouTube often has built in by showing the ads first/periodically with how long they have a given ad on for before it ends or you can skip it. So they couldn't care less about video content itself, the more it tricks people into seeing the ad the better.

Someone was actually talking in another thread about how apparently a lot of internet scamming is in itself a scam, basically pyramid schemes from the people providing the blueprints.

That's sort of what I was thinking- I'd forgotten I'd actually READ that NYMag piece, so there are firms like Meteor Interactive, but I am actually sort of curious about A) the people and B) how much any one person at the top is bringing in from all this. Like are these secret millionaires or is it more a Requiem for a Dream situation.

I don't know... the film constantly makes a point of Amy wanting to be a mum and her childlessness. It doesn't nothing to implicate her dad or her husband in her addiction. I can't find any evidence that Amy gave a poo poo about being a mum to that degree.

I agree with the article.

Here's one from just before Google announced they would penalize guys who did what he does (buy older websites and turn them into clickbait spam) - https://www.wired.com/story/confessions-of-an-ai-clickbait-kingpin/

How much Google actually penalized these websites I don't know, probably a small drop that they've already figured a workaround for
