But I've seen that argument before and it's so bad. Cursive is just lazily writing without picking up the pen, promoting it as advanced because it's curvy doesn't help. It's not friggin calligraphy. this is a guess based on 0 research but I always assumed cursive was prominent because of the prevalence of fountain pens and quills and poo poo.

I figured it was developed to minimize the need for blotting. Once the ballpoint pen was invented and widespread, it pretty much relegated cursive to a fanciful anachronism. |

My penmanship, of all sorts, used to be lovely and then I was attacked by arthritis' in a darkened alley one night and now I can barely write legibly, even to my own eyes lol I started using all cap when I started science classes, since it was easier to read notes/pre-lab write-ups at a glance. I used cursive for all my GA classes because it made note-taking during lectures much faster. Everywhere, everyone is red and green |

Cursive was originally developed for yes, less blotting, but also, it was faster than block writing. Now that we type more than anything, other than signatures, it isn't as necessary a skill for note taking now. It's also why we don't use shorthand anymore. I'm "learned shorthand, a virtually useless skill these days, in school" years old now. gently caress.

hi yob on the block vs cursive thing - when i was young I switched states and got bumped up a year. that was when we were being taught to write in block and then coming to the new state they demanded cursive and had moved on from it and so gave me lots of poo poo about my hand writing anyway I ended up with god awful handwriting but feel vindicated cause I would fire back at the teacher's complaining that we'd all be using computers anyway pretty soon. i'd also tell them that most doctors had atrocious hand writing (yes I was a bit of a little poo poo, how did you know?) |

We had to scramble and barely made the bell by driving (we usually walk) Celebrating the minor victory of remembering to make and pack a lunch, as well as on time drop off. Now I'm sitting parked around the corner, posting about it to https://beaunoise.bandcamp.com/album/buchlaworks-module-ii Gonna go home and smoke a coffee about it.

I remember him complaining about nobody watching The Last Duel because the drat kids won't look up from their TikToks and thinking it was very Old Man Yells At Cloud but I was still interested in seeing it. After watching Joaquin Phoenix stumble around in late 1700's-early 1800's French costumes while doing a bad Beavis impression I am now going to actively avoid watching it. Also, I think I really don't like Joaquin Phoenix. I'll generally avoid anything with a significant amount of him, Jared Leto, and of course Mark Wahlberg. Sparking memories of the first DVD I bought. Surprisingly excellent and weird film shot in French. Watch with subs. The DVD itself worked well as a benchmark for early players and drives. For some reason, some DVD drives and set top players would struggle to render the action scenes without stuttering. I used it to test laptops before purchase in college. https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/pacte-loups-Version-fran%C3%A7aise/dp/B00006RG8Z Thanks EFN! I hadn't thought of that in a long while. I might just go closet spelunking and see if I still have it.
