I'm constantly surprised by how much I've just been enjoying being in this world and running around. I don't give a poo poo about the story or the characters. I have nearly 90 hours in the game and I still have quite a bit I want to do. It's just fun to play.

I think my dream game would be the world exploration of DD2 with the storytelling of Witcher 3.

I think DD2 needs a lot more enemy variety and a method of moving around at running speed without expending stamina. Maybe when out of combat sprinting doesn't suck up your stamina or something? bring back liquid vim?

I disagree. Maybe I'm an outlier here, but I think the speed you move around the map is perfect. Ramping that up would make traversal feel... lesser. I enjoy standing on a mountain top and seeing something in the distance and know that getting there will not be a quick endeavor.

Your characters naturally run without spending stamina. Stamina is sprinting. :colbert:

the pace is fine but the traversal constantly taking control away from you to make you slide down every little 30 degree incline or vault forward onto every tiny obstruction in front of you without input is horrible. another thing that was much less commonly frustrating in DD1.

I'm loving the custom difficulty settings mod - making everything moderately beefier and reducing XP gain really improves the feel of this game. It rules that you can set specific monsters to be as strong as you think they should be.

You need to be inputting the direction you want to jump as you hit the button. It seems to be way more reliable to be facing perpendicular to the walls you want to jump off/between.

In other comedy thief failures I did not see coming news.

I got so used to just laughing at armored cyclops no matter what class I play as, and easily busting their armor (Shield bash, hammers for warrior, loving high frigor on casters, don't even need consumable arrows for archer). So I was entirely unprepared for my thief awkwardly bouncing off of them until my pawns cleared the armor off.

"It won't let me put dynamite on the armor for some reason? Uh... okay what if I use-no? okay jump off, use overpowered skull splitter-I immediately deflect for being in the same zipcode as armor... Well, I can climb up to their head, no helmet on this one-"

*Stab acts like it has a helmet* "Oh come on!"

The fight was still under two minutes tops, because pawns that don't bounce off armor let me get right to the murder in a bit. But man that was awkward for what is normally the easiest big monster to kill in the game.

Got the beloved brawl trophy unlocked by accident, but it was both glitchy and very :chloe: On ng+ I've been redoing several of the quests, because I'm crazy like that I guess. After I finished the House of Blue Sunbrights, unlike the first play through I noticed that Daphne now had rosy cheeks. Oh no. She's also the type that will follow you around town. Double oh no. I was heading for my house and saw Ulrika standing there, waiting for me to take her on a trip I had no intention of going on. Then Daphne came running up, and they were both kind of by the house for a while. After a minute or two Daphne teleported away and the trophy popped. I suppose the game just doesn't have an animation to use for that particular circumstance, so there was no actual brawl. Then she ran back from the slums to follow me again.

At least I can stop bribing Ursula and Sven to get them to fight over my affections. It takes a lot of gifts to raise somebody to beloved status if they don't have any actual quests.

I find that gold isn't a huge incentive for quests because there are a million pawns with 10k cyclops quests and stuff. I usually offer dullahan bones or other really hard to find materials for mine and they tend to get snatched up pretty fast.

toward the end of my playthrough I entered a riftstone of potential and saw a bunch of pawns who looked solid (upgraded gear, meteor/maelstrom equipped etc) but had sadly never been hired enough to have their "travel for a day and night" quest completed even though they were level 60. I think whenever I do another playthrough I'll focus on using the riftstone of potential to give some love to those pawns who never get hired.

Do I get to kill the Sphinx somewhere because she bailed on me due to a physics glitch and my jank tolerance is being sorely tested. Getting to the point where I just want to stick with vocations and beeline the main quest to see it through. I think this is the sort of thing that will change radically as more players reach "endgame."

For large swathes of the game 10,000 is more useful. Hell, even now it's still useful, since there's plenty of gear I want to buy and upgrading equipment isn't exactly necessary.

And really early on stuff like wakestone shards is useful, while they're pretty worthless after the earlier parts of the game (which are both the only parts where you won't have many wakestones, and the only parts where you're particularly likely to die).

Ok, Punchfighter isn't as much fun as I'd hoped. Can clear out mobs easily enough, and even cyclops aren't much of an issue, but these are still just early game enemies and anything with more than 3 health pips takes an eternity to bring down. Anything that can just run when it gets low (dragons and griffins) will have ample opportunity. Warfarer can't use other class skills without switching to the weapon even if the skill doesn't use it, like Implicate or Roar, making it pretty useless for punch runs, and the range/ speed of punches makes fast and flying enemies a nightmare. Harpies and wolves are no fun, but goblins and saurians are always fun to throw down with.

Most shield skills work just fine without a sword, but I wonder if other classes might also work without their main weapon. I just need a solution to fast/ flying enemies that doesn't involve opening the equipment menu, since you can't use rearmament to switch to unarmed.

Might just wait on some DLC or see if there's a decent unarmed mod, maybe they'll introduce a bloody knuckle ring. At the moment I've got the +damage when lightly encumbered ring and the encumbrance increase ring.

Also, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do a Shoryuken, but I've done it accidentally like 3 times. I think the target needs to be stunned or something? It's definitely not a button combo.

The heavy attack of every melee does a special animation when the enemy is stunned or otherwise vulnerable. For great swords there's two variations and I haven't figured out what the triggers for each is yet but one has them slam the sword down on the target, spin and slam it down again, the other has them stab the target, pull the sword back and throw it to fling it off the sword (which looks really silly when fighting a big creature you can't actually do that to). For the fist you get the shoryuken. Usually you can only do it once per stun even if the enemy is stunned longer than the animation, it's weird.

DD1 had an unarmed ring (that was a bitch to acquire, and only in the DLC) that boosted unarmed damage to make it viable, but DD2 doesn't really have any equivalent.

Running around with my buff bro pawn smacking goblins around is fun as heck, but the game certainly wasn't designed around it. Certain enemies are just miserable to engage with on a punch run, and you can imagine how often a fighter pawn with no sword gets hired.

This seems statistically very unlikely. Even if you have the shittiest pawn imaginable, it will get at least a few hires. I've seen it with my own eyes. What I suspect is that those are people who were playing offline until recently, or maybe they somehow never rested.

I still like that idea of hiring exclusively from the Riftstone of Potential, though

e: Capcom also provides pity hires, identifiable by the 'Arisen' not having a Steam profile, but presumably that would indeed not count towards any pawn quests

I didn't make much effort to sell my pawn, but ended with ~10k RC by the time I rolled credits. It's not like there's much to spend them on tbh. That's probably where I feel there's a better balance than in DD1/BBI where the whole best-in-slot equipment identify roulette pretty much required that you took part in shady pawn exchange schemes for those RCs.
