Like, I'm not wealthy but our liquid net worth exceeds all our liabilities including things like our mortgage. I haven't taken a hard look at our financials in a while (COVID, when my husband was laid off and figuring out how long we could live off savings) but I feel comfortable with the idea that we spend more every year in interest than we earn in interest, but we do it for a very good reason, we can tap our liquid net worth if we need to, significant amounts of it and remain financially well.

Trump is not earning more interest in cash than a bond company is charging him, that makes no loving sense, if this was legit the arrangement would just be him paying more money not to have access to his money. The only reason you would do that is if you were trying to pull a rug from a lender, lying about collateral or both.

Also, he'd 100% just weasel out of paying any interest to the bond company because that's his MO

I am sure someone much smarter than I am can explain why this might make sense, but it appears he is just pawning paper money, not even something like gold bars that he expects to grow in value faster than the interest in a savings account, which is the entire reason someone would offer to cover the bond, they expect to earn more/safer from whatever Trump was going to pay in fees than they could earn on their own Schwab account.

Either they are just taking a loss on the bond for whatever, likely concerning reasons, or Trump expects to yank the money back if they lose.
