The N100 might be the biggest superstar low end chip in a very long time. I might just get one of those on principle since I’ve wanted an N100 machine for a while.

Does this N100 box have good wifi hardware to run Sunshine/Moonlight server across the house or it depend on your wifi router?

stephenthinkpad posted:Does this N100 box have good wifi hardware to run Sunshine/Moonlight server across the house or it depend on your wifi router? That one specifically has wifi 5 which I've not had issues with running Moonlight, even at 1440p. If you were doing stuff like Xcloud or GeForce Now you'd want something with wifi 6 (and a matching router) but 5 is perfectly fine for local streaming.

What is the best plex like system for music? I have a friend that is getting somewhat irrationally angry at spotify/streaming algorithms. Wants to replace it with his own stream server that he rips cd's too. I know plex/plexamp work (well for my use), but is there something more tailored? His current needs would being able to play music within his network, and then downloading to his phone for offline listening. Preferably in the form of playlist syncing that he'll manage. I'm thinking i'll push him to buy that n100 box with TrueNas Core. He's a computer toucher by trade but he's burnt out. e. doh, I thought i was in the nas thread with all the n100/plex talk. Moving there.

I can't help but I can express that I have totally and completely given up on Spotify algorithms after years of study music, white noise, and lullabies.

I bought one of the hp elitedesk g4 ryzen 5 2400ge mini systems (refurb) off ebay for $80 a couple months ago. It came with no OS or anything but I put an 2 TB SSD in it and I've been running batocera on it and it's great. It's a faster chip than the N100, but it uses significantly more power and runs hotter as well. It's about 7"x7"x1.5" so I think the box is a bit bigger as well. I have no idea if they are easily available in the UK market but it looks like they are still pretty cheap here in the US. Substandard fucked around with this message at 16:25 on Apr 17, 2024 |

The same stuff they sell those preloaded batocera USB keys. And its loaded into the recovery images so you gotta burn down the entire disk. I'm worried they'll start loading crap bios images too but thankfully that's usually reserved for government level fuckery.

In the US, there's a lot of companies that offload their leased mini computers. These end up with resellers on ebay or sold from dell outlet directly. I've seen 8th or 9th gen Intel processors in mini PCs for under $200 from Dell outlet. The CPU and cooling should be far superior to that of a Raspberry Pi. coconono posted:I've seeing a lot of those system come loaded with spyware at the OS level. just wait until the malware bundlers find out that windows has a feature which automatically runs software embedded in the UEFI, without prompting the user, even on a completely fresh install after nuking the drive
