I'm excited for female space Marines because who cares and gently caress the chuds but I really do not think that, after all the transforming done to make a person into a space marine, that there is any gender left. These walking fridges might appear male to our simple eyes but in reality their gender is Space Marine. And, not to reduce gender to simply genitals, but there's no way any of them have any hogs either. That space could be used better for a third liver or something.

Filing down the rough edges on the imperium of man is probably less important than letting lovely people know that they're lovely and they need to stop. The bigger problem is that a lot of people out there think that what the empire does is good or ok instead of satire and criticism of a horrible and broken society. Which is a bit separate from playing pretend with your plastic toys, and people should treat each other decently in a shared social space and not let whatever made up fiction get in the way of that.

It's like outraged gamers, who actually don't seem to like or know much about games at all (and probably don't play or are very good). In these nerd spaces there have always been people who are generally cool hobbyists, people who aren't as into it but enjoy the community aspect more than the hobby itself, and weirdos who are just really into the aesthetics of being a fan, for whatever reason. The latter seems to have gotten worse and more vocal over the last 20 years as some of this stuff has become more mainstream and with engagement farming that's come with social media.

Even if the shitheads online are just as loud as they've always been they seem like they make up less of the community.

There’s just something about the daddy issue lads that makes them appealing. But I recognize this is unfair to 50%+ of the species plus it would make the worst people mad so I don’t really care if they go with womenstartes. Also the old models that everyone cites as being female space marines weren’t actually that, they were just called lady warriors or something like that. They’re clearly in what would be known as space marine armor, but it’s a valid argument to say they were proto sisters of battle too.

I saw someone on twitter suggest that woke 40k fans (aka me) would be up in arms over Brothers of Battle. Which is ridiculous because I would definitely include dudes with fluer de lis codpieces and armored jocks in with my rococo space nuns.

Indeed, the people who whinge about how the culture is too woke or whatever are normally doing it over animated 40K or dawn of war videos on YouTube, earning GW exactly $0. Or they’ve long since bought a 3D printer and are endlessly commenting on how they’ll never buy another GW model. Again, earning them exactly $0. They have literally nothing to lose by not acknowledging them.
