First: Christopher Judge throwing shade at CoD during the Video Game Awards https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdp9xU6gO8w The Tok'Ra Solid intro to one of the few allies to the SGC that don't completely suck. I love the crystal tunnel stuff, and the named Tok'Ra are alright. Spirits I love Tonane. Just 100% go with the flow kinda guy. It's really convenient that trinium looks exactly like someone spray painted something silver. It's also really convenient that it was the NID that suggested doing a colonialism and not anyone from the SGC or the Air Force. Touchstone Those pesky NID, always scheming. I'll give Tom McBeath props. When they discovered the second Stargate was just the prop they use to film on location he given Mayborne just the right amount of not quite selling the "it's missing, that's weird" reaction. The Fifth Race The Asgard are probably my favorite part of the wider Stargate universe. This is a foundational episode for the series going forward. It finally sets the ball rolling on all of the Asgard stuff and it sets up all of the Ancient stuff, including their habit of leaving dangerous poo poo just lying around, fully functional, with no instructions. A Matter of Time This is one of the cooler episodes of the series. The weird time dilatation loving with everything was neat. The weirdest thing was the subplot with the special forces guest star that apparently left Jack to die on a past mission. It didn't really go anywhere or add much in my opinion. 8one6 fucked around with this message at 00:05 on Jan 21, 2024 |

I love that they did the running bit about McKay's sister, then finally wanted to have her appear so Hewlett just went "You know, my actual sister is an actor..."

Seems that often works, as like instant chemistry usually, and they've already had so many years of playing the part! I still love this Star Trek story which is sort of the opposite of that: quote:I get a call. My agent says, “Hey, remember that Star Trek episode you did a few years ago?” He goes, “They’re making a new show called Voyager and they literally put out a casting notice saying “a Robbie Duncan McNeill type.” They put my name. Kinda like the character on TNG. Like, my name was in [it]. And I’m like, “I’m right here! That’s me!” And so [my agent says], “I think you should… you can do this.” Like the put his name in the casting call and they didn't even bother contacting him about the part. To be fair I belive the producers were a bit unsure about having the same actor playing different parts, but I mean Star trek reused actors all the time.

I seem to recall Hewlett was struggling with the part of his segment for Letters From Pegasus where McKay gets serious and starts speaking to his sister directly on tape, so he pictured what he would say to his actual sister if he was about to die.

It DID reuse actors a lot but it's pretty rare that they use someone as a human then another human. Leah Brahms's actor might be the only one who plays the same character in two episodes then comes back as human in another series and does two more episodes as a different character (specifically Brahms in TNG and Benteen in DS9)

I'm getting back to my rewatch and I'm going to defend Anise/Freya as a character. Yes, I'm aware she was created to add a "sexy alien" (which they made fun of on Wormhole X-treme) but she delivers Tok'Ra exposition as well as the other characters and frankly Martouf only existed to be a beige love interest for Carter anyway. Also Vanessa Angel is super pretty.

Anise was quite a fun character, if only for the moments where Freya steps in like "Yeah, Anise is kind of an rear end, but just do what she wants anyway, yeah?"
