That happens if you keep the Lesser Dragon from fleeing and kill it. Otherwise you have to track it down to get the Maister skill. So I'm guessing by "finally" you were super over leveled compared to when the quest unlocks.

drat I didn't even realize I did the second half of this pseudo-quest by going to the Dragon's Breath tower. Had no idea this was meant to be the same dragon as the one in Melve but I guess it makes sense.

I explored most, if not all, of the map and maxed every other vocation before doing any story past getting to the capital. I am very overleveled for these quests.

Yesterday I finally found the courage to confront the Medusa and the Sphinx. So I mustered all my courage, changed to fighter (which I am terrible at) for the shield and went all the way to one of the last unknown spots on the map, to the far west of Bakbattahl. After a long and arduous journey, where harpies threw me off a rope-bridge into the brine two times, I finally reached the end of the path and met a friggin' dragon?. I was totally expecting the Medusa or the Sphinx to be there. At least the Mystic Spearhand guy helped me out there. So I had to backtrack to another path and finally found my quarry. Changed to fighter for nothing because I was never able to petrify her even when I shielded up and got into the spotlight. I also failed to get her head, hoped my thief pawn would have been able to cut it off. I had a mace, so I probably wouldn't anyway. So that was a great succes. Never did find the Sphinx either.

You need a specific shield to petrify the medusa by reflecting her gaze back at her (it's one you have to find but the description makes it pretty obvious that's what it does). The Sphinx can be tricky to find because she's way earlier in the game than you'd think; I ended up missing her for ages as well, thinking she was in Battahl.

you can always just get a preserved medusa head and then store it for a week. also works on her..

as far as respawns btw i've heard 72 hours but i haven't had a consistent respawn for most enemies unless i sleep for a week. i even had an incident when i cleaned up an area for the night, went home and sleep for a week then saved. then picked up the game the next day and looking around there were still corpses...

Yeah most of the sources I've seen around the internet say 7 in-game days but there's still a lot of stuff online that's just flat out wrong about this game so I think that's just a guess. It's possible there's more to it than just time passing - like maybe you need to allow the area to unload by going somewhere else as well.

I suspected there was a Medusa head thing for that sculptor quest, but since I had no clue where said Medusa was and I had enough of this in the quest log, i just went for the no-medusa-head strat, which is presumably suboptimal already. Then I managed to gently caress it up some more by forgetting to restrain my pawns so the griffin got nuked hard. Loved the "WTF?!" from the rich guy at the reveal party. And well, still got paid. :getin:

In the tutorial obviously, but after that I didn't find her lair until the main quest sent me in the area. By then, I had hosed up the sculpture ages ago. Which was fine anyhow because I got the damaged version of the head which apparently isn't good enough.

Damnit Steve, you know I'm a sucker for Back to the Future references.
Just started in The unmoored world and I've got some questions

Can I jump back to my old save before entering this? I've got some vocations that might be fun to try but now that I'm in the hard zone I'm kind of encouraged to use what I'm good with, and due to the time crunch and limited revives I'd rather not have to back track on a ton of experience for those vocations if I don't make it.

That and I'm also trying to find The Dragonforged guy in the Unmoored world. I've got a ton of crystals to spend now but he's not where he used to be. Where does he end up?

I think you can also just put the griffon to sleep with Soporific Arrow and tell your pawns to leave it alone until the painter finishes.

Incidentally that's also the best way to get a preserved Medusa head, since if she's asleep slashing damage to her head will auto crit and instantly kill her.

What level are you? I'm sure you're fine. Just use your ferrystones to jet around and beat each red beam boss, and you won't have to worry about the time crunch. Just don't touch the red beam at the seafloor shrine when it shows up, until you're ready to end the game.

I'm pretty sure the "inn" save gets overwritten in order to make the mechanics of getting to where you are work, but I didn't actually try it. Maybe!

Just tell yourself "Oh boy, I can't wait to see how good I wreck big monsters or ghosts now!" and suddenly they will be a loving no-show even after a week, and when you travel at night on purpose.

Unless you have an escort mission, then everything will fade into existence on top of you while your helpless escort NPC keeps trying to free themselves from your grasp to run closer to a golem chasing you 2,000 feet spamming the face laser.

So, I really wish I could ask the devs what the gently caress is up with some of the vocation balancing. As a warrior with 400+ knockdown res I regularly get stunned by really trivial poo poo like one hand sword skeletons, goblins throwing jugs of water and wolf tackles, but I completely ignore cyclops hammer swings and poo poo. If I switch to archer and just stand there spamming my quick shot attack at around the same knockdown res nothing short of grabs really knock me out of my attacks. Thief and archer both have exclusive armour with absurd defensive stats, while warriors and fighters get poo poo that gets outclassed by mage gear from time to time. Warrior's a lot more fun to play in this game than it was in the first, but it really feels like it's the afterthought of vocations.

I found warrior was the one class where I wouldn't get staggered by absolutely everything. for every other class I would get staggered by things as trivial as bats and leapworms, with late game armor and the ring that adds 100 knockdown resist. it was maddening.

with warrior I found could just ignore most hits while holding charges and I don't think I ever got staggered through a barge, so I treated the barge as a timed deflect button and used it to no-sell big attacks from giant monsters. it rules. I want to do a lot more warrior whenever I revisit the game along with sorcerer because the new buttons they get to press makes them so much more interesting than they used to be

Maister spells, Levin, and Flare are good. The rest are a bit garbage imo. The only one I'd use on Warfarer is Flare.

The other electric mine spell is pretty good for just preventing annoying small enemies from attacking you, since it zaps anyone who approaches. Not sure how it's total damage compared with High Levin, though.

Sorcerer is pretty meh without the Maister skills, but amazing with them. For the regular spells I liked Levin and Seism.

frigor is no gicel but it's a solid knockdown and good on anything weak to ice. Quickspell and a cast speed ring lets you really spam out the regular spells too.

all the regular sorcerer spells besides hagol are good on things weak to that element. The difference in damage between matching an enemy's elemental weakness or not is pretty huge.

Right. I think I might have to give up on thief, because the camera becomes an absolute "I don't normally have motion sickness, but..." shitshow trying to climb dragons to stab or plant bombs on their chest, holy gently caress.

Plus the fact their orbital lasers have a height of a thousand feet means trying to climb up his tail while they are hovering in the air like a coward, still gets me blasted, every time I try to climb . No wonder people say they just spam skull splitter. And even THAT is buggy in making me end up standing on top of his back, then automatically toppling off onto my rear end :sigh:

I have killed a few dragons in the southern map wandering around now. Playing warrior, thief, and no meteor unlocked Sorcerer. Every fight all the problems are "Wow, this mechanic is annoying even if I gobble consumables". From roar spam every time you are about to punish them or revive somebody, to dumb pawn AI that can't avoid orbitals in the first place (please stop stabbing him in the shins it never helps please run)

"His heart is exposed master!" That would be great if they didn't just poo poo out an orbital on you, roar everyone's stamina back to zero first, or both. I also have the strong suspicion if I brought a specialty mage with silence, it would not stop them from spamming roar. With special guest star "Topples 180 degrees facing away from you", reminding me why I gave up on archer every time even a fallen cyclops tucks their head in.

Maybe I should finally get back to the Act 1 plot, but I get the feeling I would still prefer basic classes over spear dude. On the bright side, anything but dragons is basically doomed. And even the dragons are delaying the inevitable.

I love frigor. Just launch goblins and dogs into low orbit while doing non-poo poo damage to a fallen dragon's heart in a pinch. Shame your Pawn AI never wants to remember it can bust golem foot weakspots early.

You have to give it to them by initiating dialogue with them, and then select the "give them an item" option (I forget how it's phrased)
