there are 2 stages of being knocked down, landing (where among other inputs, holding back will make you instantly roll backwards) and wakeup, where you are fully laying down and have different options, including holding back to go right into a standing block. nobody is lying to you in the something awful tekken 8 thread

They've done really well with the replay system and things like punish training, but I feel like more in-game explanation of this stuff would be good.

Any other PS5ers doing the "Chipotle Challenger Series" lol? My first attempt I immediately got bounced by a Fujin after advancing past the first round due to a DQ. Won the pod of 8 (it's a single elim event lol) the second time around with a much softer bracket Edit: https://twitter.com/BandaiNamcoUS/status/1780310196402667877 CharlieFoxtrot fucked around with this message at 03:44 on Apr 18, 2024 |

It's probably going to take way longer than 15 hours before you're good on stick. While it's really intuitive and fun to use, it's also honestly way harder when it comes to making very fast and precise inputs. If you're enjoying it, I'd just keep playing and see if you improve. If you want to tweak it a bit, I'd look up if you can mod the stick with a replacement spring and actuator, which you can probably buy very cheaply off AliExpress. Or you could try giving the spring a stretch, and wind some electrical tape around the base of the stock actuator.

On paper it's better but if you watch literally any tournament you'll hear the stick players smacking the collar from pushing the lever all the way in a direction, you'll drive yourself crazy trying to stay at the point of actuation just smack that poo poo around it can handle it and the 2lb spring will bounce it back to neutral quickly with no reverse action (unless it's a Hori Hayabusa lever, those have bounceback problems)

OxMan posted:Any tips for a stiffer stick (wink wink) for a qanba drone (older black and yellow one)? The original Drone has a VERY small space to work with, a Sanwa JLF 100% works so you can grab a JLF with a 2lb spring upgrade and you'll be good to go. The other japanese lever types are too big to fit but the JLF has a very thin profile and squeezes in nicely. As far as Korean levers go YMMV, most of them are on the thinner side like a JLF but I can't promise they'll fit but if you had to pull the trigger on one just to test it I'd do the Crown 309 MJ NewHelpMe, specifically the New one as that is the version that is compatible with the stock lever hole size in the Drone and wouldn't need to be drilled out to 35mm to fit the collar. I've seen people install these in Drone 1s but I've heard they've had to cut into the plastic jutting all over the place inside to make room for the 5 pin adapter onto the microswitches

I want to hop online just to mop up the few trophies I’m missing for Platinum but I’m also restricted to wifi and people get a huge stick up their rear end about that so it’s kind of been deterring me from doing it. I know I shouldn’t care at all and I have stuff like voice chat and messages from strangers disabled but I hate knowing that I’m being frowned at for daring to play online by whoever

This is what I mean. I feel actively discouraged from playing because of it. Like I’m an rear end in a top hat for playing video games without a wired connection so people will either a) not match with me or b) match with me and then complain about it. I personally feel it’s kinda silly to be so picky about it given that it’s a video game and use of Wi-Fi on consoles is super common. Obviously it’s your own prerogative to decline matches based on it, but this is the kind of thing that gives me anxiety about using stuff like the lounge or joining player sessions. It’s a shame because I really like playing fighting games but I feel the larger community is kinda hostile, so I will usually only do it with friends. I do want that platinum trophy though.

# ? Apr 20, 2024 22:40 |
Just do it and don't care. Honestly I would say that OVER 50% of the matchups I get are wifi. I reject them 'cause about 30-50% of wifi connections are dogshit for this game and stutter constantly... but I would bet that wifi players match other wifi players. I certainly don't begrudge wifi players for playing the game. I do sometimes match them if I'm having trouble getting a wired game and it's still better than nothing - I'd prefer more people playing than not.

Both solutions are very simple I’d absolutely do the latter except that’s not feasible in my current living space, which I share with other people. Wiring from the room the internet comes from into mine would stick out like a sore thumb. I’m not doing that just for a handful of fighting games that I play on occasion. Like I’m not doing it out of ignorance or stubbornness, I just literally have to utilize wifi. Me and my friends across the globe never have issues playing like this, but it means dick all to random strangers who see the Wi-Fi symbol.

The bigger query is why they won't let us filter by it, but I expect it's because they've tested that and it just created two entirely separate pools of players...

I don’t want to have to deal with someone getting salty over it. Never mind, this has just reinforced my opinion that I should only play these types of games with friends only. Fighting game enthusiasts love to harp on about welcoming fresh blood, but I get the exact opposite impression.

There’s no way of knowing why a matchup was rejected. It could be the connection symbol, it could be that the connection wasn’t five bars, it could be your opponent was AFK when the match popped. It does no good to sit there dwelling on why someone didn’t hit confirm when they were given the option. There is a stigma against Wi-Fi players. They get matches all the drat time anyway.

fighting games love fresh blood but you gotta understand fighting games on wifi is pretty fuckin dire. it's inconsistent, drops a lot, and if you've ever dropped a game winning combo cuz the other guy's router decides it's time to take a nap then you'd understand it sucks to play like that you wouldn't want to share any other hobby with someone who's just going to make it a gigantic pain in the rear end to play with, why would fighting games be any different?

I feel like this is the only genre where people get elitist over whether you’re using a wire or not. If you’re gonna play people across the world, it’s stupid to expect more than half of them to be plugging their machine directly into a wired connection, especially if it’s a popular game on consoles, which is most major fighters. Wi-Fi is an extremely common setup, and more often than not these days it’s completely usable. This isn’t the mid 2000s. But go off I guess, that trauma seems like it runs deep for people. Enjoy your video games folks. They’re not that serious.
