Whirling posted:avellone's characters got so self-indulgent nearing the end of his career at obsidian, to the point where he tried to give the two companions he wrote in pillars of eternity mind dungeons you had to navigate to unlock more story for them and the project leads had to cut all that poo poo because implementing any of that would've taken ages for no real gain. those characters sucked too, worst companions in both of that franchise's games. Durance is a fun character who needed an editor to shine Grieving Mother just sucks PoE 1 Pallegina was the best. PoE 2 Pallegina is insufferable.

I tried for a while to get into PoE1+2 but they are grey mush to me, the combat is repetitive despite the high customisation - there are so many insane niche builds that can all work after a lot of investment but the balance between direct damage skills and every other skill was really bad and makes a high single-hit damage Arquebusing Cipher player character the best choice in nearly all circumstances. The placenames are not memorable, the interesting parts of the setting are not developed very well, half the companions are lame, it just didn't do it for me.

I saw any number can win recently. Extremely straightforward caper flick, the crew gets together, the mastermind narrates the plan and then you fade into the heist and it goes from there as it all falls apart. Great score, Alain delon was a smoke show in it and it has a couple of razor sharp moments of tension but it is too generic and slow paced to feel like a classic of the genre or anything. Glad I checked it out. I wish there was more scenes on the casino floor, I always love seeing what those looked like in different countries/decades.

It'll probably never leave the festival circuit because it's entirely composed of edited film clips, so you'll have to check it out if it's airing in your area. They correctly diagnose Annette Benning's mum from American Beauty as an "I'm With Her" Hillary voter.

Last weekend I went to a film festival and got to see Fantasy A Gets A Mattress. Real funny stuff, felt like a bunch of good alt sketch comedy scenes loosely strung together. Also I'm glad I chatted with a pal of mine who lives in Seattle beforehand because going in knowing the guy is a local character of sorts who really does put his flyers all over the place made it funnier.
