We need to outlaw porn again so horny people are forced to channel their pent up sexuality into literature and art again like in the good old days. Pornhub is standing between us and the great American novel.

Yes. And authors are only allowed to attend conventions if someone wheels them around in a straightjacket on a hand truck like Hannibal Lecter.

Children is, I think, better than Messiah, but maybe that's because things actually happen in it? There's very little actually going on in Messiah, whereas Children has beefswellings and girdershapes, and its ending mirrors that of Dune in a pleasing way.

Messiah vs Children has always been a fundamental battle of how much you value brevity. IMO Children feels about as long as a 600 page novel could possibly feel (derogatory) so I gotta give it to Messiah for getting in and out in a timely fashion

It has this knack for extrapolating things out to absurd lengths but missing the big shifts that actually change things (but fair enough, they're authors, not prophets.) But yes, it's such a beautifully tactile little detail. I can picture that book and those oil-lens binoculars so clearly! You know something has gone wrong when Google Search stops being useful for search but fantastic for delivering TEMU ads. Or in Dune terms, for a little while there youtube served heaping piles of AI-generated thumbnails labelled DUNE TWO TRAILER. The current web seems rather harmful to human flourishing. I guess the big question is, how do we Jihad?

You need drastic measures baked into a belief system or ideology that is otherwise strong enough to drive people to act in extremes, and buddy i dont have the first idea about how to get there but we probably, as a species, need a holy war on the internet and the move to digitize everything. Moving backwards being virtuous wasn't something i anticipated but Dune Was Right

I'm also picturing Fremen crusaders coming to conquer Giedi Prime, stepping out of the ship and immediately pausing with '...whoa. This explains so much.' Then a generation later they've semi integrated and the fashion scene is just wild
