He's haunted by the spectre of his father. And its just sad that even in death he managed to be disappointed in his dad not making time to watch anything with him. He loved his dad but was still let down by him and is afraid of carrying on that legacy.

And cartooning is long boring work.

I think he's overestimating the international demand for Japanese sake. I haven't really seen in in places which don't offer Japanese cuisine. Sometimes there's Japanese beer like Asahi on the menu, but sake is still relatively rare. And honestly, it doesn't really taste all that great. It's fermented rice water and tastes pretty much like the description.

Inexplicable Humblebrag
Sep 20, 2003

the drunk guy who lives in a hole in the ground is probably being a bit too favourable to sake, yeah, but the clearly unbiased japansake.or.jp indicates a steady increase in sake export volume and value year on year

https://japansake.or.jp/sake/en/topic/news/consecutive-record-high-growth-in-sake-export-value-and-volume-in-2022/

value is going up faster than volume though. no supertankers of rice wine

definitely not as popular as like regular grape wine, and not something you'd see in non-japanese restaurants round here

By their words, there is a increase of 118% year over year. That would be a drastic growth, so I guess Ootsuki is onto something there.

Always irks me a bit when people don't know the difference between "Increase of X% compared to the previous year" and "(100+X)% times the previous year."

Fancy sake has become a collectors item like wines and other liquors, add in the fact that every city on earth now has a $200 omakase menu and yeah I can see it.

I want to say Ludovica is a character I really enjoy? I think it's easy to write a sheltered, kind of spoiled character in a way that either complete ignores their flaws to make them a better protagonist, or goes all in on making them a whiny caricature that's really annoying to the reader. Ludovica comes off as someone who makes mistakes and is sometimes shortsighted or selfish due to her lack of worldiness and privilege, but is also likeable and intelligent. She's easy to root for and also easy to cringe at sometimes. Love her.

How do you interpret Nobunaga's anachronistic armour choices in this light?

Yeah, she's a really thoughtfully constructed character. There's that tension between "L. has been handed a lot of great stuff in life" and "L.'s society expects her to be not much more than a decorative object," heightened by, f'r'instance, Arlesi's (nearly) unwavering support- the reader (and the other characters, and Ludovica herself) can view that as life handing her yet more Easy Mode bonuses, or another example of Ludovica's brilliance. Plus "sponge" is an inherently funny word

Emzedoh
Jun 26, 2013

I always figured that Nobunaga's weird armour and European clothes were to highlight his iconoclasm and willingness to break with the accepted way of doing things. It also accents Nobunaga's rough style with his subordinates - he's not a people pleaser, he stands apart from them.
