This YouTube experiment has been running since July 31, 2023, but I just saw this: AI-generated video summaries. By default I'm against AI-powered bullshit, but this would be great for those videos where a simple "Is this thing bad? Yes/No" question is stretched to +10min.  edit:  Just like this video, 9 minutes talking about small details, and the last minute has the most relevant info.

I wonder if they’ll end up rolling it out though as the vast majority of the time I spend on YouTube is due to this not being available. I’ve cut down YouTube a lot since I realised the paucity of actual information compared to the fluff and filler and often I just try to infer what they’re saying in the vid from scanning the chapter headings to save time. gently caress YouTube in a lot of ways, this would go a long way to make it a less destructive habit

It does Sponsorblock and blocks ads. I don't know about DeArrow. The sidebar is great as you can pin channels or specific playlists to it. And it can be set to never autoplay another video, and always turn off after X minutes of not touching the remote, so it's great for sleeping. I had to do some developer mode shenanigans to install the apk on my Chromecast but it's worked great for a year now.

Chromecast suggestion is interesting but I duno if I want another thing spying on me in my home. My PS5 controller and iPod touch are unsettling enough. Less YouTube is probably better for the mental health anyway. gently caress the future man, I hate it
