Honest question - most promotions have an "anniversary show", or their SuperCard/WrestleMania/Wrestle Kingdom

And I'm trying to figure out what that is with AEW...

That's honestly tough to answer. I feel like Double or Nothing could fit that. But so could the All In/All Out shows

THE LIAR
Double or Nothing is referred to as their flagship show because it was the first one.
All In is named after the progenitor of the company and is their biggest show with the biggest audience.
All Out will always have some significance because of All Out 2021.
Revolution is their actual most significant and most consistently high quality show.

Not feeling it with DoN as their Mania. It has a nice casino theme, you're always guaranteed to have a great show and it had the distinction of being their first official event. But it doesn't feel bigger than the likes of Revolution.

The name doesn't carry that certain prestige either. All In settled this discussion I suppose

All In will continue to feel like it on paper because of the stadium. But I hope the card doesn’t always feel so hastily thrown together. The proximity to All Out really fucks with it.

Tony is so insistent on stupid traditions.and it feels really dumb to make All In and All Out a week apart and always in London and Chicago.

Would be like if Wrestlemania was always in MSG because that’s where the first one took place. But now they added Super Wrestlemania a week before that in a huge stadium and insistent on keeping both.

Thanks friends, I see the answers were mixed between All In/All Out/Double or Nothing and that sounds about right.

I was trying to figure that out as one of my major issues with AEW, as a promotion. I understood the idea of one every quarter, and now the need to expand, but it's just feeling very backwards.

When the dynamites/collisions/PPVs aren't really good at setting up matches to new comers or build new audiences, even though I see the video packages and promos

I was wondering if this mistake was just a me problem with AEW. I know *OF* Willow Nightingale but I don't know really WHY that match. And no matter how much I try and watch YouTube to catch up. It's only half knowledge.

I listen to the recaps on B&V, but it always sounds more like backseat booking as to why it is this way, and I can't see it, even if it's entertaining matches.

Are we still hot for Swerve? Is he still a heel? What happened there?

Willow & Stat have been in a program with Julia and Skye for months, and Mercedes has a grudge against Willow over the NJPW Strong Women's title match they had. So they're setting up a rematch, this time over the TBS title.

Swerve is still hot, arguably less so than during his Hangman program but still very over. He's a face because the crowd loves violence and sicko poo poo.

Swerve is a face because he is feuding with a heel and people like him. And also Joe sent security after him and he did a big AOE stomp on them and it was good

Willow is feuding with Julia because she won a contendership match after several big victories, and while that was happening Julia targeted Mercedes Mone for being the new hotness and Willow rescued Mercedes (but Mercedes does not trust Willow). Julia has been targeting Willow since because her title is threatened.

These are all things that have been very clearly delineated on the shows themselves.

This isn't necessarily directed at you but like...while not everyone is gonna have time to watch all the wrestling they want, sure, there is still a trend I'm noticing where people aren't treating the TV show like, you know, a TV show, which is expecting you to follow along weekly and understand the stories they're building which come to a head at the PPV. At some point it's like getting mad that you don't understand all the thematic callbacks in Better Call Saul season 3's last episode because the TV Tropes page for the previous seasons wasn't detailed enough.

The kayfabe is that wrestling is a sport and people are going to be having wrestling matches as a baseline. You can then express character and events based on that framework, but you don't necessarily have to have an existential crisis going on to have the actual match itself (a midcard title match) be entertaining and the participants be appealing.

on the Lance show Lance asked Bryan if they were really as dead for Deonna as Bryan had said and Bryan just mumbled "I'd have to go watch it again..." and then changed the subject.

If better call Saul produced 4-6 hours of tv every week until the end of time I would also forgive people for not understanding all of it
