I agree the SCOTUS wont come in Trump's favor here, most likely, but they also don't need to. My point is just that there is no reason to believe the Democrats are able or willing to ever mount a meaningful defense against assaults on American democracy, such as it is, and plenty of reasons to believe they can't and wont.

For the fascist, violence is the ends, not the means. For the Democrat, the Process is the ends, not the means. For both sides of the political spectrum in America, the map has become the territory and the means have become the ends.

lmfao what

Hitler was just a random guy that held the defacto leader of Bavaria at gunpoint and led his supporters into an actual fight with like 16 dead, and he only served one year of his sentence of what was supposed to be five.

You're an absolute dumbass if you think the situations are remotely comparable.

it will never stop being funny to me that so many people in the US love the NFL when it is literally the most socialist sports organisation on the planet.

All the teams are capped to an equal budget because they all share total revenue. The worst performers of the previous season get an advantage when picking players for the next season. The players have a strong union and have a socialised healthcare plan (though this needs to be much better). All fines levied against teams go to support former players.

I was in line at the checkout today and some old shithead rolls his cart in from the side, for some reason, like he's trying to cut me off even though I'm fully like 70% into the checkstand. I'm pretty non-confrontational but I was almost like "Dude, can I help you?". It was super invasive and he doesn't let up the whole time. Like right up inside my rear end in a top hat pushing his cart into my back basically the entire time. The bag-boy asks me what I'm up to for the day and I tell him "working", and that slovenly shithead is like "THERES THE NFL DRAFT". Dude probably votes Trump so I hope that ad pisses him off.

I'm not very good with math, I confess, but I'm reasonably certain that a year - nine months if we're being pedantic - in prison is longer than, let me check my notes here, ah, yes, no time whatsoever spent in prison.
Yes, Hitler was more directly involved in the Beer Hall Putsch on a personal level, and yes it was better organized. Trump is more lazy, cowardly, and stupid than Hitler was. We should not be rewarding him for having conducted his failed coup with less efficiency than the Nazis.

I must be a dumbass, though, because I confess I consider both the idea of a private citizen leading a fascist mob in armed revolt against the government, and the idea of an elected official staging an autocoup with the aid of a poorly directed fascist mob and internal conspirators within the government to be grave existential attacks on their respective nations.

Maybe I'm a crazy dumbass, but I'm pretty sure that if the president of the nation staging an autocoup with internal conspirators throughout the government and the aid of a violent fascist mob is not an existential assault on the nation's democracy and government, then literally nothing is or can be.

Mitch McConnell says presidents shouldn't be immune from prosecution.

quote:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in an interview Thursday with NBC News’ “Meet the Press” that he doesn’t think presidents should be immune from criminal prosecution for actions taken while in office, as the Supreme Court heard arguments on the issue.

“President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he was in office. … He didn’t get away with anything, yet,” McConnell said in 2021, adding, “we have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. And former presidents are not immune from being [held] accountable by either one.”

“That’s [still] my view,” McConnell said Thursday. “The president clearly needs some kind of immunity, or he’d be in court all the time,” McConnell noted. But he said he didn’t think it should be absolute, as Trump has argued.

I remember being so shocked by my stepmother bringing it up as an example of crazy things kids do (and why parents should have to know if their kids are being queer at school) that I couldn't even formulate a response, just that it wasn't true. She simply told me that her cop friend had seen the litter boxes themselves. Unfortunately, instead of engaging in praxis I changed the conversation.

Yes, watching the actual gameplay is exactly the same as people calling out the name of a college player. Then again, if you watch football you're already used to long boring stretches and too many ads.

The Football union is very weak compared to the MLB union. Fully guaranteed contracts are a rarity. The salary cap mostly helps the owners keep their costs down. NBA and MLB have salary limits, but they are soft limits and can be exceeded if the team is willing to pay a penalty. Baseball contracts are fully guaranteed as well.

Ignoring that "cat" isn't a gender and her question doesn't make any sense then yeah, sure, if the one 2nd grader in all of American history that jokingly says they're a cat for the day asks to use the "litter box" because they have to go potty and the teacher laughingly says "yes, you can go use the bathroom but be right back when you're done" I guess that's ok. It'd be kind of cute.
