There is 0 reason to believe he won't spend it on his fines or be unable to fundraise enough to do so. Hell just the scam stock alone will be enough to pay everything off and then some if he is able to start cashing out in Sept with a price over $30.

He isn't going to have to spend a single dollar on those fines. Or legal fees either.

The only way to really hurt him with monetary damages is to outright impoverish him with fines so high he'd go broke in one fell swoop. And there is no reason to believe that will ever be happening.

He already put up bonds on those. He's already paid $250 million out of his pocket and it's not coming back. If he pays it off with his stupid stock (a huge if) that's also his money he's paying.

Paying lawyers out of your campaign is relatively straightforward, having a super PAC just give all it's money to the candidate is not going to work.

Anyway I'm tired of arguing against these shifting goalposts of what counts as "real" consequences. Clearly your belief that Trump is invincible is unshakable.

I'm not sure exactly what OP is referring to. Yesterday at the end of the day, defense implied that Pecker's testimony may have been coached by the prosecution. This morning, the judge instructed the jury that witnesses talking to prosecutors is a normal thing.

My goal posts aren't shifting at all: If his fines and fees get paid for by others he has suffered no consequences.

Where exactly he gets other people's money to pay for his crimes makes no difference.

Trump isn't invincible but its obviously drat hard to pin him down and court and to make him suffer for his BS. I don't like that that is the reality we all have to live with but it is reality.

Don't forget Hitler's contributions to medicine.

The defense doesn't seem to get the argument that the prosecution is clearly going for, Trump was directing a conspiracy to illegally coordinate campaign contributions using Pecker and Cohen as his henchmen. That is conspiracy to commit election fraud, even if no money changed hands it's still an illegal in-kind donation that Trump clearly directed to be covered up.

I really hope Trump is dumb enough to testify because he is going to walk into a giant trap if he doesn't understand what the underlying crime is at all.

So did Pecker's whole testimony and cross-examination really basically boil down to:

P: "Yeah, we killed the stories for Trump's campaign"
Defence: "Isn't this just business as usual for you though?"
P: "Nope, we did it to help manipulate the campaign"

Prosecution: "You normally would run that story?"
P: "gently caress yeah! That story was GOLD! Flushed so much money down the drain killing it."

Except they didn't flush the money, they were repaid by Michael Cohen who was paid by campaign funds which were improperly(illegally misrecorded on purpose) filed as business expenses.

I think that's the case.

It's so loving funny to me that if the expense had been listed on the books as 'hush money paid to porn star' there'd be nothing happening here

Seems to me that if you're in any kind of organised crime you're better off just listening 'money from my cocaine empire' on your tax forms. At least then they have to prove you're running coke, and you haven't handed them a free tax lie.

They assumed at the time that "paid hush money to a porn star" would be more damaging to the campaign, since they hadn't yet realized the full extent of "just post through it" that Trump embodies.

Not quite, it's that it was being done at the direction of Trump. Pecker can do whatever he wants with his own publication, including smearing all Trump's rivals and only running pro-Trump stories. The issue is the Trump "I would like you to do us a favor", that is clear cut crime.

Trump is going to want to believe that Cohen is a liar liar that had gone rouge and Trump had no idea about all of this, it'f that is true though, why was he covering it up in his business records? What was the litimiate purpose for giving this lawyer you think is so awful so much money right around when all these contracts were signed?

No, the other thing is an independent crime, tying the two makes the first one a felony.

And this kind of accounting is meaningless if you're gonna label everything "money" and then say it's all paid for by other people without acknowledging that that's not some self-proving statement that is true by virtue of saying it, or that these funds are not unlimited, or that by virtue of saying it's a giant pile of "his" money that something allocated for his legal defense cannot also be used for, say, campaigning or even buying a Fish Delite.

For your premise to make any real argumentative sense we have to treat all the money as wholly fungible and limitless. That's...simply not the case.
