This album is definitely front-loaded and the second half is weaker than the first. There are multiple skips after Incognito IMO. It kinda sounds like they went from making a Justice studio album to making a Justice film score for a few tracks there, and it's not particularly interesting to me.

In my opinion the album falls apart on Explorer. The Miguel song is cool, and the final track with Thundercat is also, but it just doesn't really recover after the album takes a boring turn.

I've listened twice now and I agree with this, Moonlight to Explorer is cool but I think it should end at the Thundercat song literally.

Saw LP Giobbi just now. She put out one of my favorite albums of last year, so I figured she'd be cool to see live. Maybe at another venue she would've been, but at the theater where I saw her, it's like the sound system couldn't accommodate her sound. I had never seen an EDM show at this theater before. Oh well.

I'm conflicted over what thread this should go in, as it's not really that electronic. But I think the overall vibe kind of fits, as it's definitely drawing inspiration from stuff like Daft Punk and Kraftwerk. Darren King, the drummer from Mutemath, finally released the solo album he's been putting together on and off for a few years. It's his instrumentals (with some familiar collaborators in the credits) and a wide range of guest vocalists. The version on Bandcamp also includes instrumentals for the entire thing. I'd say they're equally worth listening to. (The vocals are probably the biggest weakness of the project if I had to pick on anything; some of them have a bit of an amateur "college radio" feel, although that's also kind of charming.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzlo1BYD2vU https://dkthedrummer1.bandcamp.com/album/lockers-volume-1

Green Album finished. Set is a mix of the US and UK versions - Macro Head was a surprise. Got some photos, I'll put them up when I get home tomorrow. I am of course up front and not quite in the centre. This may have to be my last Orbital gig, though. It's not the music, it's the lights - I have bad photopsia. The flashing lights are painful and can leave burns for hours. I'm having to wear sunglasses with a pair of clipon shades on top of them, and I still have to close my eyes through the worst of it.

While I know they did that crap-rear end collaboration with Marshmello a few years back (boo), I still maintain CHVRCHES are the best pop EDM act. New remix of The Mother We Share Old remix of MSMR "Hurricane" that is great

How the gently caress you gonna dance to St. Vincent?! Rest in power SOPHIE. Has anyone tried to start a hyperpop thread? It's a kinda hard to pin down genre, but maybe through the power of No Music Discussing we can arrive at least a definition.

The first time I saw them live was in 2007 and the lead singer went into the crowd with this MIDI instrument he built called The Atari and he let people in the crowd play it. This was way before Porter Robinson started doing that for Sad Machine. I can't find the evidence, but I recall learning at some point that the guy who built the Atari (the second version, as the first one didn't survive many shows) actually operated out of a building a few minutes away from the house I grew up in. (Sometimes considered "NYC" but... not really)

I can't remember if I've watched that one or not. e: ODESZA The Last Goodbye Cinematic Experience (the movie that was in theaters last year for one night only that I saw) is gonna be released, both on Blu-Ray and digital. Madeon is going to be playing at Echostage in DC in July and I would be totally down to go but my wife isn't going to be in town during that time. Going by myself is a pretty meh option. Also the last time I went to Echostage to see Porter Robinson it was loving packed to the gills, I had like a square foot of room to dance in. It sucks because I would really like to see Madeon but I'm leaning towards no this time. When did I get so old, this would have been an easy sell when I was in my 20's haha.

They get on stage and the drummer enthusiastically duct tapes his monitor phones to his head. Encore was performed from a christmas light-laden life raft that the crowd had on their heads. Just incredible.
