Working on all 3 of my right-side-of-tree zealot penances at once (throwing knives, loner backstabs (what a poo poo penance), and momentum) and I gotta say…going from a melee character with tons of +Impact to a melee character with a lil dagger has resulted in me taking so much more damage. Obviously a skill issue but I really haven’t figured it out lol. Making good progress on the penance and getting tons of team rescues though. It actually pisses me off because the shroud field is an offensive ability on paper but extremely loving good at rescuing teammates and looking back at all the shroud zealots I’ve had during my playtime, the vast majority use it to gently caress off and do some damage while people finished bleeding out.
I gave up trying to be useful in higher difficulties with this build, and still getting blades of faith kills. Going to dif 2 or 3 lets you easily one-shot specialists and gunners with knives, and 2s are mostly empty except for the random Auric Maelstrom Survivor that's speedrunning it to get Melk's weekly bounties out of the way.

After a few more hours with it I’m more comfortable with it. It’s just a higher effort build and it is what it is. I sneak off to stab stuff in the back 30-40 feet in front of the team, hordes are fine but annoying, and I farm trappers, tox flamers, rager/shotgun/hound packs for throwing knife kills. I’ve also found that certain missions are excellent for backstabbing ranged units outside of coherency, like anything where you “make a stand” and random trash ranged units show up constantly you can just kind of chill there and spam shroudfield every 8 seconds using a high crit dagger, blazing piety, and the crit CDR. The one with the prismata crystals for example.

Give me your drip tips:

- Nothing seems to get the "crackhead with a knife" vibe to satisfaction

- So generic
- Also have access to Scions helmet, but pretty well like what I have here.

The best match for the knife is the Heavy-Grade Grit Shirt that’s just, like, a tank-top

If they’d put shirtlessness back in that’d be great, too

What are y’alls’ thoughts on Hit & Run IV? I have it on my Columbus mk5 on my stealth zealot and I know utility/defensive blessings on guns aren’t the MOST in vogue but it seems pretty good. For context, immunity to ranged attacks for 1s on close range kill.

The shemagh look here is really nice paired with the high cuff pants and strappy boots, and the gone-camping backpack ties it all together. Big fan of what I'm seeing in all these fits.

Man, auric seems really hard right now. I’m very glad whenever I get a solid team. Had 5 consecutive losses where people played super defensively and would NOT revive anyone who went down if it was at all risky, then quit as soon as they went down or got in a rough situation, which obviously leads to wipes.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I might need to queue regular damnation for better teammates than auric damnation.

When the patch first dropped it seemed like everyone hopping into Auric 5s were veterans looking to wrap up those penances as fast as possible and things were incredibly easy. Now it's a lot of people finally stepping up from lower difficulties and bailing out the moment things start looking bad.

This is why I don't care for achievements / penances / whatever in a co-op game like this. I want to enjoy the core part of the game, not have people throwing matches trying to tick a box or spending 15 minutes trying to nail a jumping puzzle.

When I first saw people with the auric title, I was pretty impressed. But then I played a few matches last week, more than half a dozen people would quit and join over the course of each game. I get it, people want their achievements… but also the title is way less impressive if it only mean “great at quitting at opportune moments.”

I managed to avoid dying myself for a few games. Until a mutant chucked me into the spinning fan on that one map, insta-killing me.

The whole "consecutive" thing is horse poo poo. You can lose matches for someone being an asshat. If they weren't consecutive, I could just punch out a few of these every week while doing my melk quests. Why did they make the change to demonhosts just to reimplement this? Oh wait, :fatshark:

the 10 im a row really isn't too bad, just put on your best build, preferably something that lets you support yourself as well as your team, don't run goofy poo poo. Just do the hi intensity aurics without any modifiers, dogs can be pretty fine too.

Its bragging rights ultimately, lol at the people alt f4ing to try and cheese it. I've knocked it out mostly with pubs and didn't quit once.

Alternatively, join the discord and get goon groups going of you want coordination and call outs.

The auric maelstorms can suck tho, you want a premade for those imo.

My brother got his 10 missions last week and quit twice. He said both times people on his team were being idiots. Even though he and I had been remarking on all the quitters in our games, I know he’s the type who just wants all the achievements done, so I didn’t give him any guff… all I can say is :fatshark: :argh:

I'd been playing a lot of non-auric before, helping friends level up to 30, so now that I'm warmed into the game again with a new build I've been running auric quickplays and I've been having a lot of fun. The flechette shotgun has had a lot more synergy with my build than the bolter did. I feel like this weapon is underrated, I don't see many other shotgunners.

Last night a two-wound psyker went down near the end of auric Warren and I went back to pick her up, and stuck her with the green stim I'd been carrying since she only had the two wounds. Ten seconds later she exploded and went down again. I feel like that stim saved her life. We made it through with zero deaths.

I personally prefer the Illisi, but that definitely puts me in the minority. The Illisi's activated attack is a diagonal cleaving attack that feels very similar to the activated attack of the Power Sword, while the Deimos's activated attack sticks in a single enemy, dealing high damage with a follow up force push. I guess what it boils down to is that the Deimos is better for single targets, while the Illisi is more geared for crowd control. Also, the Deimos is kind of shaped like a penis.

as funny as that sounds, I'd also rather not have people intentionally sandbagging runs to get those. Maybe like a title for having it happen once as an honorary "welcome to darktide reject" thing, but any more than that? Ehhhhh

They’re definitely horde vs single target but the Deimos seems worse and harder to use for single target than our lord and savior the DSIV. I think it looks cool and has good blessings available (slaughter and uncanny lets go) but I was having to 2 body shot random trash mobs with the first light and was like ???

E: I also strongly prefer the Ilisi. Deimos just gets big style points and I see a lot of people using it so I want to make it work.

Not to mention that shame titles could lead to an ugly situation where people are getting instantly vote kicked just for their title. As much as I'd love to see bad Psyker's having to run around with Mr Explodey Head under their name, I don't think it would ultimately be healthy for the community.

the Illisi is absolutely the more popular force sword. Psyker needs more help with horde in melee than single targets imo.

Deimos is the the middle ground between the illisi and mkiv. Never felt that great since most builds that work well tend to compartmentslize problem solving.

People sandbag runs because fatshark has incentivized it. Its all carrot and no stick. Beside, you simply don’t report how to get them and give them silently on login x days from achieving it. You should just login one day and randomly notice you have the roasted title from dying to flamers too much.

Deimos is better for single targets, Illisi is better for horde clear, which one you want is dependent on your ranged weapon choice. Obscurus is the middle ground option except that just means it's worse at both roles so it's not covering the weaknesses of your ranged weapon as well.

Unless you particularly need Deflector or force-pushing for some reason you might as well use the Dueling Sword over the Deimos though. Illisi is unbeatable for mindless swinging but if you're looking to style over single targets the DS is way more fun.

there's a difference between doing weird builds or things to try and achieve something and not being able to execute outside your comfort zone as well, and taking hits you shouldn't be intentionally to get cheevos.

I'm still down for silly cheevos like that, but not that require significant investment to complete.

I've got near zero progress on the 'dodge Reaper shots' penance because either they get nuked instantly, or I'm behind cover because I'm not an idiot who waits several seconds in the open while they wind up. :smith:

Auric heresy is probably the most fun to have in game. You can play builds using those weapons you pulled that never really work l in Hi-intensity damnation and play in ways you never could with the more efficient/meta builds.

I do dumb poo poo in aurics too, you can get away with a lot of things with meme builds so long as you play properly and understand what role you're filling. Sometimes the meme build requires someone else to handle the mean crushers for you and if your team can't do that, you wipe in bad situations.

It's funny to see how far I've come as a player. I used to hate anything higher than 3s until they made it worth playing them, and now that I'm used to it anything below 5s feels so empty. I'm glad it's what FS balances around so folks below that can have a lot of fun with whatever!

To my understanding they reworked the way the shader cache loads in order to improve performance, but that means it's gonna have to rebuild the shader cache and your game might hitch when you start playing it again. We went through two missions and it was fine by the end, but if you run into this problem that's what's happening.
