fwiw patrick paul scored the highest in a few of PFF's blocking metrics last year.

quote:

TRUE PASS SETS GRADE: PATRICK PAUL, HOUSTON: 89.9
The massive left tackle out of Houston secured incredible marks on true pass sets – PFF’s most stable and predictive pass-blocking metric – utilizing his incredible length to neutralize rushing threats. Paul surrendered just four pressures, none of which resulted in a knockdown, for a 98.6 pass-blocking efficiency rate.

PASS BLOCK GRADE ON FIVE AND SEVEN STEP DROPS: PATRICK PAUL, HOUSTON: 91.4
Paul worked on his footwork and initial step in 2023 and was met with much improvement, allowing him to excel on deep drops. The former Houston left tackle clocked over 350 pass sets on five- and seven-step drops, yet he allowed just eight pressures, only one of which resulted in a knockdown.

OVERALL LATE-DOWN GRADE: PATRICK PAUL, HOUSTON: 83.3
Third and fourth downs are undoubtedly crucial situations where protection breakdowns can effectively swing the momentum. None excelled more than Paul in these late-down scenarios, where he contributed an 89.9 PFF pass-blocking grade, allowing just a 3.4% pressure rate. Additionally, producing a 71.9 PFF run-blocking grade, surrendering a negative play on just 2.6% of his late-down snaps.

They drafted Drake Maye, that tells you all you need to know about the front office.

I picked Marvin Harrison Jr, T'Vondre Sweat, Jonathan Brooks, and Joe Milton with the first four picks as the Goon Draft GM. Does anyone else prefer that set of picks?

Feel the same about Wash, they didn’t reach on that DT but they had 3 picks in the 2nd round and didn’t use a single one on o-line. Two teams taking top QBs and then doing very little to address massive holes on the o-line

I wish they had flipped the receiver and tackle picks before they got down to like the fourth tier of OTs for a guy who has only ever played guard and RT. Or at least traded back up to get a guy like Kingsley Whatshisface. Gonna be right back here looking for a tackle again next year.

Don't know those other guys but MHJ should have been the #1 pick.

Jonathan Brooks is a talented RB coming off of an ACL tear. He was one of the more highly rated RBs this year.

T'Vondre Sweat is a 6'4" 366 lb (probably a bit heavier) DT who played in Texas. He specializes in two gapping, run stopping, and has the potential to develop a bit as an interior pass rusher.

Joe Milton is a QB for Tennessee who has an arm, athleticism, but might not be able to make the correct read all the time. I picked him in the fourth round, so I don't expect success here.

The Jets really should still sign a guy like Tyler Boyd because they still don't have a caddy for Mike Williams.

And they should just cut Lazard.

Strategically New England did exactly what I was hoping for, securing guys at their 3 biggest positions of need. I’m nervous they botched the execution though by reaching for Polk vs getting someone who could plausibly play LT. Feels like they could have gotten comparable production from a later receiver.

We’re reaching the point in the draft where I no longer have strong opinions on dudes

I think they pretty much made desperation picks, most 2nd round tackles suck as is, so I'm not mad they didn't leapfrog the Chiefs for the 9th LT, it's just what they were locked into after picking Maye.

Polk seems like a solid pick, and not surprising, as the tackle prospects left at the start of the 2nd were projects who will most likely bust or kick inside as is. So it goes.

Fine with a DT. DaQuan Jones is great, but he’s old and injury-prone. Carter seems like he could be a force at DT if things go right.

I’m happy with Patrick Paul. High ceiling low floor whatever but I think he’ll do well

I don't think the low floor matters that much for the Dolphins. Kion Smith, Kendall Lamm, Brandon Shell, Greg Little, hell for that matter Austin Jackson didn't really gently caress you over. You can protect a lovely tackle, and you can probably start him and get an acceptable result while waiting for the upside to pay off.

I think I'm mostly annoyed in this draft you had Troy Fautanu and Ben Sinnott go right before your picks.
