I think fundamentally they don't really seem to like things for what they are, they like them as signifiers of their heroic struggle against The Wokes or whatever and if they can't think of it that way it's not as interesting. Ingroup/outgroup tribal signifiers are definitely part of it. That's also how they can descend into really contradictory takes. Also the infamous "vagina bones" tweet refers to a scene from Tokyo Mirage Sessions, which had some fairly major changes to its Western release that of course had all the usual suspects up in arms. The detail that doesn't come up is that Atlus liked the localization so much that when they did their usual final edition rerelease of the game, they backported all of those changes to the Japanese version. Turns out the author didn't think any part of their vision was marred by not having vagina bones.

Tik Tok sucks compared to vine in the same way new Twitter (even outside of all the musk poo poo) sucks compared to old twitter. Limiting the video to 7 seconds or a tweet to 140 characters forced a unique kind of content. Watching a 2:45 tik tok is no different from a random YouTube video, and “tweet 1/6” should just be a blog post. Also, the “react” meta of modern social media is garbage. The whole ecosystem is just one of the few actual “content creators” making something that gets 500k views, and then 20 different big names “reacting” to it for a cumulative 50 million views. Or 30 different channels reacting to a video of a weird girl at chik-fil-a or whatever.
