I think you are just accurately remembering that whole action sequence as insanely long and bloated and rationally assuming that you must’ve seen some kind of extended version.

Based on premieres of new 4K restorations at Cannes Classics this year, we're probably getting these sometime this year... Seven Samurai - UHD already out in Japan, French UHD just announced. It's the 70th anniversary, too, so good chance Criterion does this before the end of the year. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg - Seems like an obvious UHD to release from Criterion The Sugarland Express - Universal has been putting out a lot of Spielberg in UHD, so this is probably coming in the fall. Paris, Texas - New restoration being shown, it's the 40th anniversary and Criterion's Blu is kind of old. Army of Shadows - New restoration, Criterion has already upgraded two Melvilles and it's the 55th anniversary Also looks like there's a major project between Steven Spielberg and Library of Congress to do 4K remasters of Frederick Wiseman's entire film-based works.

Maybe Discotek will get it too for region A - they carry the TV show, and something like this happened with Kamikaze Girls. Either way it's great that it has a new release. Such a cool, interesting movie.

Went a little nuts at the Kino Lorber sale, but got a nice copy of Hardcore (Schumacher riffed on this with 8MM), The Man On The Moon and the classic Chicago buddy cop comedy Running Scared. Locally there's this shop called Nickelflix and they sell Blu Rays for $4 unless it's a boutique - picked up Crazy People (which I never even knew had a Blu release) and the original Magnificent Seven.

While we're talking region free, does anyone have experience with region-free modchips? I've got an LG UBK80, and I've seen there's one out there for it. $80ish and a little solder sounds a hell of a lot better than $300 or so, to me.

Chris James 2 posted:Speaking of July announcements, The Man from UNCLE is obviously a Warner license, but the UK release of The Last Starfighter is, too! It was a Lorimar coproduction with Universal, who only own the North American rights. Apparently, this is the first time it's been on disc in the UK - I can't find anything for a UK laserdisc or DVD. One bit of warning, though - a few extras are being left off compared to the US edition because they were produced by Universal for their own DVD/laserdisc editions.

Followed The Saucer Hovers's lead and hit up Music Millennium today - they weren't kidding when they said it's the best in town. Towns to choose from, from Kino to Vinegar Syndrome to a bunch of imports and plenty of used stuff. Criterion DVD of The Rock was the first thing we touched, as if it was calling to us. $8 and now it's on the shelf next to the Criterion of Armageddon.

About three years ago my mum and I both got a bee in our bonnet to get Funny Farm on Blu. It was only available in the States as a two-movie pack with Spies Like Us on the same disc. Mum got that, I found a standalone import because I really can't tolerate those things. She was not impressed with Spies Like Us. Fun fact: Funny Farm opened the same weekend as Big. pwn fucked around with this message at 21:40 on Apr 28, 2024 |

It’s weird that Funny Farm isn’t remembered as much as Chevy Chase’s other films from that period, or at all, really. It’s a very typical 80s all-ages comedy, and not any worse than his other stuff, to maybe put some faint praise in his direction.

My partner and I were specifically pissed yesterday about Miss Congeniality being only available as a combo with the sequel, and featuring absolutely nothing in terms of bonus features. Is it the greatest movie of all time? No. Could they have gone to any effort at all, though?

It’s a very typical 80s all-ages comedy, and not any worse than his other stuff, to maybe put some faint praise in his direction. It was a staple in my house growing up; we taped it off HBO in 199X and I'm pretty sure we also bought the legal tape at some point. It's George Roy Hill's last film, also his only madcap comedy. I have two multi-movie packs that I can recall in my collection. One is some awkward Spider-Man Steelbook with mediocre art that has the first two Tom Holland films, the first animated one, and Venom. I think I got it at Target for like $10 and I knew that was the best deal to finally watch these dumb things (I have yet to watch those dumb things). I'm not proud of it. The other is this 2015 Japanese Steelbook of the BttF trilogy on Blu and I am proud of it. I know some folk hate this art style but I like it. It comes in a clear protective slip that also houses a little art book. Maybe one day I'll pick up the 4k trilogy but you know, it'd be nice if Universal took Paramount's lead with the Indiana Jones films and did standalone Steels with just the original poster art. A boy can dream. As long as I'm here, enjoy the back cover of Funny Farm, with copy text in four Scandinavian languages. Edit: Oh yeah actually forgot: I have a digibook collection of the Raimi Spider-Men, a digibook of the Garfield Spiders-Man, and a digibook of the 80s Ghostbusters films. Obviously these are all franchise sets; actual "here's multiple films awkwardly shoved into one pack" style releases, I don't think I have any. pwn fucked around with this message at 01:15 on Apr 29, 2024 |

Buddy works for the library, and at a branch for a tougher part of the city. Got to drop off a ton of physical media. Blu-rays. A couple DVDs and 4Ks. Bunch of PS4 games, and some PS3. Some will get sold, others integrated into their collection. Felt good to be able to pass something on, and see more good come of it, than just going to the dump.

In amusing news, the internet was hunting for a lost song based on a snippet for several months, and if you follow those kinds of Lost Media types at all you've probably heard of it - "Ulterior Motives"/"Everyone Knows That". Well, the source of the song was finally found...a 1986 porno called Angels of Passion. Being me, my mind immediately went to "Well, how long will it be until Vinegar Syndrome gets their hands on this one?"
