I don't enjoy the physical side of getting older, or like, parents dying off, that kind of thing. But I fuckin love being older apart from that. I'm 46 this year and it's loving great. I feel like I finally have a bit of gravitas, an actual voice to be heard. I've lost a lot of weird insecurities and the desperate need to be liked, and I'm finally getting to an age where people will stop asking me if I'm going to get married and have kids and do the 'usual' life poo poo. Some of this is probably because of ADHD-autism diagnoses in recent years but some of it is just because being this age is awesome. This is probably not as acute for masc-presenting people, I dunno, I wouldn't have a way to tell. But I feel like I am an adult and like other people see me as an adult and that took a while. Admittedly I look younger than I am which probably wasn't helping.

I appreciate that my voice seems to be going through a second puberty and getting deeper as I age. Hopefully if I reach sixty I will be able to do the halo theme tune in such a way that it causes everyone in earshot to immediately poo poo themselves.

I try and do 3 gyms a week, but some days the will just isn't there. I found the trick to regular cardio was to sync it up to a regular podcast or bit of media. I was able to do couch to 5k and then 10k just listening to Novara every session. Problem was they're a bit poo poo at times, and I just sorta stopped enjoying it. I haven't found a replacement that is just audio that I can 75 percent pay attention to without having to go "wait what? Stalin did what with tomatoes???" And it mucking up my stride. I've been consistently enjoying Knowledge Fight. Kind of like a more focused behind the bastards I guess. Dan in particular has a dogged persistence with his pulling apart alex jones' bullshit that is impressive to watch and you occasionally get someone truly loving crackers going on the show.

Neatly combining the topics of podcasts and nostalgia for a bygone decade, I've been listening to Sonic the Comic the Podcast, a retrospective of the 90s British Sonic (and other Sega characters) comic, presented by two blokes (one of whom is a goon) who were exactly the right age to love it when it came out. It's a great old listen, and not at all tedious in any of the ways that description might make you imagine. Seriously, give it a listen, it's really good. And their website has scans of every issue so you can read along with them.

I used to read that comic, not to the point of wanting to listen to a podcast about it. As for Rwanda, aren’t we in purdah? I guess that is why it was leaked in order to get around it.

The guys who do Under Consoletation, the Podcast where they watch every episode of 1990's show GamesMaster and talk about all thing gaming from that period, mention the STC Podcast a lot. If that's your jam, you should go look for the UC Podcast too.

Even the website on its own is heroin-like nostalgia but a podcast with lots of episodes is just what I need to listen to in between my usual weekly shows.

Oh man I’ll have to add that to my rotation. My Nan used to buy me the comics instead of giving me pocket money like my cousins as a kid, and it was only in my mid 20s a few years after she died that I fully put together she was doing that because she actually knew that I liked both sonic and comics where she didn’t really have a clue what my cousins liked at all, and spent an afternoon crying my loving eyes out.

NoneMoreNegative posted:Personally the motivating the weights is mostly doable, but motivating doing cardio to burn off some excess? Impossible mode. The vast majority of people basically don't lose weight sustainably by doing cardio; they do so by limiting their calorie intake in a manageable way. It's not practical for people to lose any significant amount of weight by exercising enough without altering their diet and I think it's been a huge failing of our educational system that more people don't know this. My wife and I were both pretty fit when we met and then gradually gained weight in the years leading up to covid. When the lockdown kicked in, she convinced me to get back into a fitter lifestyle. Over about six months I got down to the weight I was when I graduated secondary school and I've stayed pretty close ever since. What really made weight loss effective and sustainable for me was eating a healthier and more protein-rich diet and cutting down on alcohol consumption. I do run about three times a week, but mainly to keep up my cardiovascular and mental health; the way I see it, any small amount of calories I might burn in the process is just a bonus. Yeah you burn the vast, vast majority of your calories just keeping your body alive. You need to do incredible amounts of physical work to burn calories that way.

I burned 7000kcal just by running this week - 2lbs give or take. I could technically eat all of that back but it would take some doing. That's just to say, generally you can't outrun a bad diet, but you can if you're willing to run a shitload.

I'd love to run again but my left knee starts to hurt real bad after like a kilometre of jogging. It's healthy otherwise, I can do short sprints, squats, swimming, everything and it doesn't have any complaints. But it just gets immediately hosed when running and I wish I knew why.

Doctor_Fruitbat posted:I'd love to run again but my left knee starts to hurt real bad after like a kilometre of jogging. It might be an IT band issue, which causes pain right behind one of my kneecaps from time to time. It can be resolved by stretching, doing some strengthening exercises, and working on your running form. FYI the idea that running damages your knees over time is a myth; research has demonstrated that long-term runners actually have fewer knee injuries than non-runners.

I heard that the brain consumes more calories than any other organ so I do cardio by getting mad at adverts that only exist in my head. Imagine if life insurance adverts didn't have some old athlete from the 70s but instead had five gay men rubbing their dicks together, and they're all vegan too.

I'm certainly burning some brain calories trying to figure out the logistics of five guys rubbing their dicks together unless they are all very blessed or forming some sort of celtic knot of limbs. If I was better at maths I could probably work out some sort of adaptation of archimedean theorem of dick length to number of guys required to achieve total frottage. Exercise makes you healthier, even accounting for weight. Finding a exercise you enjoy and doing it regularly is key, and usually easier than finding a diet you can sustain long-term. This isn't to say diet doesn't matter (it's the only way to lose weight), but in terms of healthiness it's only one piece. Doing lots of exercise does tend to make you more aware of if your weight is getting in the way of your athletic performance, which is a good diet motivation if you enjoy your regular exercise.

Least represented is American and Australian First Nations and Pacific Islanders. Least represented by percent of population is probably GRT or people speaking Welsh or Polish. Maybe they're watching very different channels. Or maybe they put BBC into PornHub instead of Google.
