So they revealed the new Dyson Ships on tream today.

They look amazing, but their traits are rear end. Borticus is back, it seems.

Federation Kardashev class.

Klingon version

Romulan Rallus class.

A bunch of Shield and Drain traits, they even said on stream, apparently, that one of them is the worst trait they've ever designed.

But they might have decent chassis, to summarize from reddit where i grabbed these images:

Reddit posted:

All ships:

Sec Def Science Mode
EXP WPN Tactical Mode

Cmdr Sci* with first spec
LtCmdr Uni with second spec
LTCmdr Tac*
LT Eng
Ens Uni

*Swaps to CMDR Tac/LTCMDR Sci in Tactical Mode.

FED is Command/Temporal (this is correct, screenshot is wrong sorry about that)
KDF is Intel/Command
ROM is Temporal/Intel

KDF has battle cloak.

The Romulan one in particular could be very nasty for science shenanigans.

Not sure why they'd want to release a trait they admit is the worst one they'll release, but I'm not a dev.

Looks like people are already lamenting the ships aside from the ROM one. I'm interested in the FED one at least, and I kinda want to make it workable, but I don't know if it could be salvaged into something decent.

Stats don't matter at all.

The ship's special turns you into a giant, immobile, AOE tower. You're dealing damage and healing poo poo around you so you're technically "playing" as far as poo poo like AFK status goes. The whole point is to just pop that on a choke point and surf the forums or whatever to get your daily event progress.

Command is good for Torpedo builds, which can combine nicely with the science focus.

The Fed and Rom chassis are fine, the seating is fine, it's the traits and consoles that are hot garbage. In fact the Rom ship is the only Full Temporal Science ship with Intel seating available for purchase, the other being a lockbox ship, and that combo is great for Spore-Infused Anomalies.

And yeah, that T6 Obelisk looks fantastic and would make a great summer ship, until they somehow don't make it a Flight Deck Carrier.

Jonathan and Jesse have both left Cryptic, as far as I know Bort is the only one left who has any experience designing new ships. Even worse, that probably means he's going to be the one training the new Deca hires in how to build new gear/traits.

You can boost the jellyfish's DPS (+weapon power, +all damage, or +electrical damage). It's just pointless to do so if you're just using it to AFK event queues.

Christ, pubbies. Gateway to Gre'thor is not hard.

Blow up the first two groups of Iconians, then split the team to the two lanes. Turn off the radiation gateways for ten minutes.

Kill the ships at the end.

Why is this apparently so difficult for people?

I've been queuing for all three and going for what pops first. If anything Herald Sphere is easier simply because it technically doesn't have a failure condition on normal. Even Brotherhood hasn't been too bad.

I definitely prefer Herald sphere. Pubbies do better at flying towards enemies and attacking than they do at interacting with mission objectives.

You don't actually need to do step 2. The mission will progress even if you don't turn off a single radiation gateway or save a single transport. In a public queue its a bit rude not too though.

This does mean its therefore soloable - including AFKing the long middle phase - if you have decent enough build to handle the groups of ships at the end (which includes a dreadnaught that teleports around as it takes dmg).

if youre good enough to clear the two groups at the start and the dreadnought at the end you can private solo queue it, you can even afk during the transports phase for 5 mins cause it doesnt matter what happens there

New mission, TFO, and lockbox on the 28th.

Sela is coming back yet a-loving-gain, this time as Mirror Sela.

New TFO is a ground wave gauntlet against Borg.

Event awards a torpedo launcher, hangar pet, and an epic phoenix token.

New lockbox ship is the Aetherian ship from the last couple story missions.

Aetherians confirmed, as I called it, to be mirror Iconians.

Hmm, I actually have all of the event ships in the epic token (and barely used any of them), so I'd either be getting the T'pau scout ship, or breaking it down into UR tokens. Wait, nah, I've got a few UR tokens in the bank already not used.

Claiming the T'pau is single-character only, right? I'll probably end up shoving it in the bank until I decide I want it on one.

Yeah single-character only. The T'Pau isn't very good if you have any other kind of Science Ship.

That chunk of Lobi is nice though, and combined with the later bit from the Meta Campaign that'll be a lot of Lobi to spend.

Maybe I'll finally grab the Domino on someone, I don't really want the other ships, I already got the ones that are actually interesting.

That, and they probably finally understood that Lobi store is one of the last places for items from which people do not seem to buy anything, because even buying keys and opening boxes gives you a pitiful amount of lobi. A currency that was at one point farmable with daily missions.

Its existing library of stuff, only thing you need to do is give more lobi to non- or rarely-paying players.

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Nah lobi was never farmable. They just did some token one-time freebies as hidden episode objectives and the like and even that stopped pretty quickly. I think the last example was the freaking Breen arc from twelve years ago?

Yeah, I think you could only get like 20 lobi total. It wasn't ever a good way to get lobi for f2p players.

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Also if they wanted people to care about lobi they could start adding things to the store again besides a gimmick ground gun once or twice a year. Between that and the Phoenix boxes basically being abandoned it's baffling how many monetization schemes they've just let die.

My guess is they've got actual sales figures to support lobi, phoenix, etc. not doing well compared to things like heavily (in STO terms) marketed ship bundles and the like.

Why focus resources on legacy things that people barely interact with as is when you can pump another big bundle or drop in a lockbox ship you know will have traction?

Der Kyhe
Jun 25, 2008

Well, one thing could be to mention them somewhere. I literally had to google how one does get Lobi, and the wikia site mentioned some missions that have been cut, which also caused me to wrongfully think that you used to be able to daily grind the stuff.

My issue with these is, basically, that nothing you can get from them is account-wide and none of the ships or goodies within are good enough (or weird enough) to make me care.

I have plans for the t6 coupons and the lockbox token from the meta this year (big thing is I'm picking up either the Seneca or Valdres to unlock valkyrie fighters, which are apparently very strong, for the account, probably the Seneca because I like the space freighter look), but the lobi? Now the epic phoenix token? Probably going straight into the account bank to rot because I have too many neat-looking ships to fly, not enough alts, and nothing available in either store rates more than an "Eeeeh... I guess..."
