It's not actually that impressive. EVs in general tend to ace safety tests, especially for small cars, because they have all the traditional modern safety features coupled with an absurd amount of mass for their size*; they can absorb a ton of kinetic energy and will basically never roll-over. Other than the Y, Teslas are actually pretty mediocre for safety compared to other EVs. Also, note the claim: "highest possible safety rating" is not "safest possible car". That just means the Y got 5 stars from the IIHS. Which is good! But it's also something that pretty much every major auto manufacturer manages to accomplish with at least one vehicle that they make. The Ford Explorer has the highest possible safety rating. The Jeep Grand Cherokee has the highest possible safety rating. loving Kia makes an SUV that has the highest possible safety rating. *Which makes all EVs, and teslas in particular, much more dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers. All this time when people said musk created zip2 I never thought about it too hard and figured it was something highly technical like zip compression, or possibly software for something related to zip drives. I never even considered how illogical it would have been for PayPal to acquire something like that. Ugh, so it's just a phone/business directory website? I can't really think of a less impressive project. It's like something they would assign in a comp sci course. And on top of that they said the code was so amateurly written it couldn't really be expanded or fixed so had to be rewritten. Incredible thing to brag about
