I think gerontocracy is a quantitative factor in it. The decaying husks running the empire now are literally the same ones that were running it half a century ago. You’re not going to get new ideas on how to run things or innovative new strategies from brains so old the grey matter has fossilized. I think you can see it in things like Cuba, where to most people the revolution is something that happened generations ago, but to the gerontocrats it was a personal affront that they are still nursing a grudge over. Which ties in to what Al Saqr said about white solidarity and racism. Namely, do you really expect someone brought up and socialized in the culture of the 60-70’s ruling class to not be a racist?

I think of this specific example because if you did like a "man on the street" thing and said one side in the conflict murdered an American citizen with a bulldozer and eats pancakes on the anniversary of their killing in celebration, without saying which side did it, my thinking is popular sentiment is not going to be favorable to the side doing the bulldozing, which most people weren't aware was happening to begin with. They're so enthusiastic about this poo poo, and seeing them go "hey, isn't this cool?" with that ghoulish settler grin does not elicit the same response from a normal person being exposed to this to the first time. No war was ever won or lost on the basis of public opinion but it ultimately has the effect of people previously unconnected now being exposed to the bullshit to such a severe and immediate degree as to instantly see past it. Just my $0.02
