does anyone still gently caress with HOCl disinfectant? one of the spray bottles i use is haunted. that one, and only that one, loses its chlorine content and effectiveness really fast. another bottle's liquid tests good after months. my current guess is that there's some magic dried residue that built up inside that's causing each batch to expire much quicker.

Anti-infection measures still needed, one year after COVID-19 downgrade

While Wednesday marks one year since Japan downgraded COVID-19 to a lower-risk infectious disease category that includes seasonal influenza, the country has faced a larger-than-usual number of unseasonal outbreaks of other infectious diseases over the past year.
(..)
The country has been largely free of major outbreaks of COVID-19 variants since the COVID-19 downgrade, except for the ninth infection wave last summer and some other periods.

No plans to replenish inventory, set to expire in December, says Health Canada

While Health Canada has authorized extending the shelf life of some rapid tests, all of the tests in the federal inventory will expire by December, said Janveau.

"Given the current COVID-19 outlook, inventory levels, and indicated testing demands, the federal government does not anticipate the need for additional federal procurements at this time," he said in an emailed statement.

Parents Willing to Pay $800 for Mask Exemption in Covid-Era Poll
  • Survey deployed in 2022 found US adults evenly split on masks
  • Younger adults would’ve paid $1,200 to get out of mandate
US parents would have been willing to pay $800 per child to exempt their kids from wearing masks at school, a large-scale, pandemic-era survey showed.

Researchers from four separate universities asked more than 4,000 participants hypothetical questions about Covid-19 mask mandates to get a better sense of mask-wearing behavior and opinions. At the time of the February 2022 survey mask mandates were hotly debated.
(..)
More than half of those surveyed said they wouldn’t have paid anything to get out of the mask mandate. Among those who were willing to pay, younger adults said they would’ve paid an average of $1,200 to be exempted for three months. People 65 years old and up said they’d pay $50 for the privilege.

About half of the respondents who indicated they have school-aged children said they’d be willing to pay to exempt their kids from a hypothetical school mask mandate. The average amount those parents said they’d pay was $800 for each child.

This seems to be a steeper curve than the one I remember, that got a lot of shares back then!

It is amusing that the data on this *exactly* follows the math of a 15% long covid chance at each infection.

1 case : 85% chance of being ok
2 cases : (.85)^2 = 72.2% chance
3 cases: (.85)^3 = 61% chance of being ok (last data point from this trial)
4 cases: (.85)^4 = 52.2% chance
....
10 cases : (.85)^10 = only a 19.6% chance of being ok, over 80% will have faced long covid.

It doesn't seem like people are *more* susceptible. But no one is gaining any resistance

Minimizers will say that at *some* point people recover, and that many long covid symptoms are just "amusing or not a big deal", like not being able to smell - not really comprehending what not being able to smell actually entails. It's not cause your nose is stuffy!

We probably aren't going to have 80%+ of the population with self-reported brain fog at any given time. However....it does seem there is plenty of cumulative damage, and to an extent the person just adapts to their new normal and reports feeling fine again. People are adaptable, without even understanding what is happening.
