Don't think I've ever changed a movement control option as fast as I have with Ctrl - Alt - Ego. It seems interesting but very janky and I'm struggling with how much I dislike its whole aesthetic. The whole 3 letter acronym explosion and cat pix poo poo springs from the mind of a truly insufferable millennial mind. The main mechanic seems cool though, it's what I imagine the game Geist for Wii was although I've never played it. Shadow of a Doubt and the SS1 Remake are also on sale right now if anyone wants a new game to play.

Played a bit with the RTX Remix renderer, unfortunately it's not really viable at the moment. The NPCs look terrible, it crashes a fair amount, it makes things like mirrors and laser security beams invisible, and when you use a scope it's just a big black box in the middle so you can't aim. Cool idea but it needs serious work.

Moved on to Human Revolution and I'm still amazed how good the art direction is in this game. I want all this furniture and these light fixtures. loving criminal this studio got put on bullshit and then killed instead of getting to do the third one. They managed to make good sequels to Deus Ex, a task I did not believe was possible before they did it. Huge waste of talent.

I remember when AI in the games industry just meant the logic determining which interactions an enemy or other non player character took

Problem with the game industry in regards to hiring practices is that it's every bit as exploitative as much more boring industries but can often sway people with the coolness factor. "gently caress you, pay me" is the order of the day with any corporation.

I looked into the industry when I was a younger lad considering my future prospects, but even then it seemed like nothing but bad pay, terrible crunch, gross Cosby-room co-workers, and worst of all, having gamers for clients.

24 years later, Warren Spector offers more details about Deus Ex's cut 'Denver airport conspiracy' mission that was 'so crazy no one would believe it'Warren Spector posted:"I came up with a mission series that the team was going to implement and make better, because that's what teams do. One was a Denver airport conspiracy mission. I cut that one because it was so crazy, no one would believe it. Underground tunnels, holding pens with barbed wire to keep all the baby children who go missing from getting out so they could be eaten by shapeshifting aliens—including the royal family and the Bushes. They're lizard people, shapeshifting lizard people.

If you're going for "all corporations suck" truism, then sure whatever. But no one's getting crunched, underpaid and fired for doing their job well in like IKEA. Game industry shows notably higher turnover rate than the general tech industry and that's just surface level. It's been a topic for more than a decade with tons of first hand accounts of exploitation.

More of a comment on stagnation in the industry than anything else, imo. MD is still on par with things being released today, both in terms of graphical fidelity and GaaS crap. What's really changed boomer shooters and the like?

It is funny how HR was planned as brick US city -> China -> French city again. I don't think they ever built any of the India part of the game. Shame about never getting to see Upper Hengsha in behind the scenes stuff at least, since it was about 80% complete when they cut it.

I just installed Deus Ex GOTY edition along with the map fixes, Kentie's Launcher, and several renderers on a new system. I think I've got it looking about as close to vanilla as possible after some tweaks, but I'm getting some intermittent audio popping during music and dialog even after switching to OpenAL. It seems a bit less frequent when I'm using Direct3D9 vs Enhanced OpenGL, but I think the latter looks better. Anybody else happen to run into this recently? Seems like OpenAL fixed it for some people from other posts I've seen but not for me. I've tried different audio latency settings in Kentie's Launcher and it doesn't seem to have much effect either way.

I'm not sure if this will fix it but a good thing to try would be to change your system audio settings to a sample rate of 48k or 44.1k, whichever one it currently is not. 20+ year old games sometimes get a little lovely if their sample rate isn't set to 44.1 edit: also try increasing the audio latency in the kentie config as shown above. thunderspanks fucked around with this message at 15:59 on May 30, 2024 |

Thanks. Direct3D10 was the first renderer I tried but I was getting a weird texture bug where stuff like crates or bodies would get cut off depending on where and how I was looking at them, and I found it way too dark besides. So far I like the look of Enhanced Open GL + OneXBlending turned off the best, but I can try messing with Direct3D10 again. I haven't messed with the sample rate settings either so I'll try that too.
