heyHEYYYY!!!
I would probably go for the old Ludwig Van and a scene from Clockwork Orange.

I also now realise that outside of just noticing that there's something on your back, you could count how many times the line goes in and out of any given space to quickly tell if your catch is there (should be an odd number).

After briefly considering Beethoven's Fifth, I decided that would have gone for Pachelbel's Canon for the classical music task, in the manner of Nick. The timbre of blowing bottles would be fitting to the piece, and it's very performable thanks to its slow and steady pace. You could even go round a few times with variations on the rhythm.

After seeing Joanne's attempt, I was thinking a photo or a model of a mountain, and turning the light on and off while shaking a sheet of metal. Greg would have guessed that right away.

Nick had the right idea going with something simple and easily recognizable. The other choices were... interesting.

Well, Greensleeves is also simple and recognisable, if you can, you know. Play it.

"rararararara" contains the meaning of everything, kept in simple rectangular structures
I'd have to double-check the wording, but was there a loophole which would let you perform 4'33'' on the outdoor piano? Seeing as how it doesn't involve using the instrument to make a sound? If not, creating a prop "piano" is still a lot easier if it's never going to have to sound a note...

I think the task said it should be classical music. Is 4'33'' classical? Is it even music? I think Greg would've disqualified you.

Oh I think I'm daring him to, but in the studio I'd be pushing back with my full reserves of GCSE music knowledge. You bet I'm nit-picking that Greensleeves isn't Classical, it's Baroque. And Beethoven's 9th falls into the Romantic period ak-chu-a-lee. If I'm going down, I'll at least be amusingly petulant about it...

I didn’t quite understand what they were going for with the fishing task? Was it all just a setup for the red herring / fish pun? Didn’t seem like there was much to it besides ‘follow this string around’ and wasn’t particularly entertaining to watch.

It did feel like one of those tasks that just didn't work out how they thought it would, but for some reason they didn't cut it. Which makes you wonder how bad those tasks are.

What was the TV commercial that they mentioned during the classical music task? I think they said it had waves turning into horses but the only ad I can think of with that is this one which definitely doesn't feature one of the pieces of music they played in the episode.

I still long for an uncut clip of Tim Vine following a string. Strings are great.

It's a complicated setup, extremely simple solution task that generally fucks with members who's the type to overthink tasks or look for loopholes

I think they just made a frustrating task hoping someone to go berserk but ended up leaving it in because how effortlessly and happily Nick cleared it.

Crossword are a thing stateside but they don't do the cryptic thing and their grid style is different such that there's a lot more words in the same size grid.

You'll find specialist puzzle setters in the US producing cryptics - there'll always be some in the MIT Mystery Hunt, for instance - but they're not daily newspaper content; actually, despite being British, I've had a little more success with American cryptics through the years. Although that said a common US daily crossword's 'theme clues' will occasionally touch on cryptic methods, and the occasional "?" lateral-thinking clue is often akin to the 'cryptic definition' form of cryptic rule (which is frequently - but not always - notified by a ? over in our cryptics, too).

Stephen Sondheim was a big fan of cryptics. I think he might have set some? He had certainly written about them.

I think it was because the producers were gently finagling and arranging things around so poor Nick had at least one good episode, and this task happened to be one of the tasks he actually did well on. Not an exciting task, and possibly one that would have been cut had he done well in anything else...but at least he had a lovely time doing it.

Yeah that's actually one of my big questions about the show, are they playing with the task order to make everyone have one good episode?

Also who decided to make David Correos untie 4000 shoelaces?

The Cheshire Cat

Fun Shoe
I think they will sometimes try to arrange it so that people they know did very poorly in a lot of tasks will have at least one good episode. Of course they don't have any control over how the prize or studio task will go, as we saw with Judi Love when she came so close to winning one episode only to lose it in the live task.
