I think the banjo version is better overall, that folky banjo sound works better for story-songs.

I'm 7 tracks into an album that's about the ZX Spectrum 48k in the style of genres you'd expect to encounter on 1981-1989 MTV
https://soundcloud.com/brown-moses/sets/48k-dreams-revisited

I asked ChatGPT to give me a paragraph or two summary of the subject of each song, then added that to the end of the prompt, which helped keep things on topic. Generally, I made 30-50 new clips at once and listened to them, liked the best ones, and then reviewed them again until I narrowed it down to one. Then I just repeated thar again and again until I had a song.

I came across that My Love track yesterday, and no poo poo it has been stuck in my head long enough where I scraped it into Ableton for a remix. That prompt resulting in that song is pretty shocking.

Udio news:

Thank you for being a dedicated Udio user. Since our launch last month, we have shipped some exciting new features to enable you to create higher quality songs:

Audio Inpainting
an innovative feature that allows you to seamlessly edit and refine your audio tracks. You can select a portion of a track to re-generate based on the surrounding context. This makes it easy to edit single vocal lines, correct errors, or smooth over transitions, so you can create the perfect track.

Extended track duration up to 15 minutes in length.

The ability to select the context-window size used in extensions. This means you can adjust how much of the previous audio is ‘seen’ when generating the next clip. You can choose a 2 minute context window if you want more global consistency, or a short context window if you want to quickly transition between musical styles.

The ability to trim your track before you perform an extension. This means you can easily extend from any section of a track or remove sections from the beginning that you do not like.

What's up with Udio generating lyrics fine, but rendering them as complete gibberish? Is it just a case of "happens, reroll" or is there a bug at the moment? Or something I am doing wrong? Seems to happen whether I give it my own lyrics (sometimes) let it generate them (more often) or (especially) if I set it to instrumental.

this happens to me occasionally, but when it comes to trying to generate instrumental sections in songs that otherwise contain singing I find it helps to make sure you remove all references to vocals in the tags (and use manual so it doesn't just add them back in)

How do they do when you give them lyrics that refer to sounds that aren't there or are counterfactual? Can you have lyrics that refer to horns and drums without hearing horns and drums in the track?

anything that you put in the lyrics section that's not in between square brackets will be spoken as written

so you can put in "I love a good saxophone solo" and it will sing that, or you can put [saxophone solo] and it will insert a saxophone solo

Unless Udio decies "Nah, we're not doing that", which happens a lot for me. Especially if you try to have something unconvetional, say, bagpipes in a 70's funk track.

yeah, it definitely works most reliably if you're using something very common like [guitar solo] and using it in a song you'd expect to find it in (and in the place you'd expect to find it)

Oof, I think after today I've finally fallen out of love enough with Suno to cancel my subscription. I was trying to finish off a piece I made way back in v1 and every single time I tried extending a second verse in v3 it just... skipped a bunch of words, jumping from the first line to the fourth mid-word. When I tried using v2 instead it stopped doing that but instead altered the melody to be totally different to the first verse. Eventually I went back to v3 and it started working normally again, but wow that was a waste of time and credits.

Also, is it just me or does the [Fade Out] tag only work a portion of the time, otherwise it just cuts the track off mid-lyric?

Anyway, finally managed to get a pretty good ending for this one that had been waiting for it for months:

Udio's moderation refuses to make a Death Metal version of the Wiggles "Big Red Car" for me. I assume it's thinking "Chugga Chugga" is an obscure racial slur.

I'd been telling my sister about Suno and showing her the stuff I'd created with it, and she was keen to give it a try herself, as she often uses music to work through her depression and anxiety issues. This is the result of what we collaborated on, and I think it's a banger for a first attempt!

Hey @everyone, we’ll be shipping a number of major updates over the coming weeks. Here are some quality-of-life improvements we rolled out today in the meantime:

🖼️ Customize Images (Pro and Premier)
Pro and Premier members can now upload profile, cover and playlist images and re-generate album art after a song has been created.

🔎 Public Song Search
You can now search for any public song on Suno using:

Song Titles: Search for specific songs, like Egyptian Dance Party
Tags: Search by mood, genre or anything else you might use to describe a song (e.g., Rock or Chill)
Lyrics: You can search for lyrics like "cat, cat, cat" and find that song that's been stuck in your head — even when you only remember a catchy phrase

This first version of search is limited to public songs, but you will soon be able to search all songs in your Library.

🎶 Mobile Creation & Navigation
We simplified the creation and navigation experience on mobile to make it easier to create songs from any page. There is now more space for custom lyrics, and you can see songs as they are loading.

🏆 Trending Playlists
By popular demand, we're now showcasing the community’s favorite playlists right on your Home page. Want to get your music out there? Create and share awesome public playlists, and you might see them on Trending next!

Thanks, as always, for your support. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

It's nice, but their big problem is the sound quality, Udio beats the crap out of it at the moment. Hopefully Suno v4 is a massive improvement in audio quality, as it still provides more control than Udio and is better at merging different genres and styles.

I've put together an album of 80s style songs inspired by the ZX Spectrum 48k on Udio, and quite a few of the songs really demonstrate one of Udio's other potential issues, that the vocals sound suspiciously close to real singers, a problem I've not encountered with Suno:

I've tried out Suno v3.5, the sound quality isn't really improved, so it looks like v4 is still the best hope for it being as good as Udio.

Mid 90s alt rock about a blowjob. The vocals came out really well on this one, it has a naturalistic garage band sound to it.
