I treat a lot of the references in the show in much the same way I treat them in MST3K honestly. I get a lot of them, and there are more than a few that make me go look into them, but I'm always going to miss a few. The show has exposed me to all sorts of stuff I was not aware before watching. I still remember looking up the "Here comes the warm jets" bit and discovering Brian Eno. I'm sure someone will do some exhaustive annotated list of everything similar to what MST3K has in time.

The character/real person mix I never got until it was directly pointed out to me was the Hardy Boys ripoffs from the therapy episode were also the Menendez Brothers.

There’s also a reference to the Duran Duran video video for hungry like a wolf. That bit in the season 2 opening when rusty meets the jungle woman and gets scratched.

They do like mixing up references and jokes enough that plenty of characters work fine even if you're not familiar with the source material. And sometimes funny given the comic book movie boom meaning suddenly the OSI are far more recognisable as SHIELD riffs, for example. That and most of the archetypes are still recognisable, and played on in ways that make them interesting on their own. The injokes are an extra bonus. Self Medication feels kinda rough chuckles for someone from a traumatic background, since they're specific and absurd but somehow recognisable patterns of people twisted in very specific ways by the poo poo they were put through. And they know that. And not that much more absurd than the insane poo poo that abusive parents will do and treat as normal.

I definitely read the wiki page on Warhol’s Factory after that episode, just to see how well everyone matched up with their Legion of Doom counterparts. “Shehemoth” is too good a name to waste on a one-off joke character. That’s straight out of 70s Marvel. The Thing definitely teamed up with Nighthawk to fight her in Marvel Two-in-One.

Wait, that happened? https://youtu.be/PdlU8e9wBIE

"Like Patty Smythe before me, I am a warrior" was a joke that flew right over my head until I heard the song one day on the radio, which made it even funnier because god drat, Gary.

I looked that site that spat out 40 hours, it says season 1 and 2 are both exactly 6.5 hours. It's just taking the episode count and multiplying it by 30 minutes so yes it assumes you are watching it in full TV ad supported blocks because it is the most lazy implementation so it tells you nothing.

Anyone want seasons 1-6? First three on DVD, last three on Blu-Ray. They're literally going in the trash if nobody claims them. Cleaning out my parents basement. May or may not come with a Killinger action figure still in the packaging. Okay, does. (you can't have my art book. I'm keeping that.)
